For many years here at the station, we had a bottle opener that Frangry brought back from Barcelona. It was magnetic and had a big ceramic "BARCELONA" holding the actual bottle opener. So when we would have beer-drinking afternoons, we got in the habit of saying "where's Barcelona?" when we needed the bottle opener, heh. Good times.

I had my first Belgian dubels and tripels as a kid in a hostel, soaked to the bone on a cold, rainy day in Brugge, along with a crock of spaghetti and meat sauce that had been top-loaded with cheese and broiled like an onion soup. Love me some Herb Alpert / TJB, and this is such a cool weird reinterpretation HA did!

A few years ago I did a little set which was the whole track-list of "Whipped Cream & Other Delights" (which is where many of us first encountered "Bittersweet Samba") – except wherever possible as performed by someone other than HA/TJB (and in as many cases as practical, in an original or precursor version).

Because when I heard that album as a kid, played by my parents, in most cases I had no clue that any of those songs weren't original to Herb Alpert!

I know it's tacky to link to one of my shows here, but in this case I'm proud of the photo I used to illustrate the playlist:
