Hi, Jan! Happy April!

We've heard a lot about Growena from Checkerboard Time:

Ooh, I'm tempted to buy this:

Hello, Krys! Happy Fake News Day!

Ah, so I've been misspelling his name!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am
Krys O.:

↳ Jan Turkenburg @11:24
I never would have guessed that. I think one of the radio magazines had it spelled as Chick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
Jan Turkenburg:

My default search engine is DuckDuckGo and that got me today's playlist picture, but not The Chic Martin ad.

I'm always searching for images across different platforms. I'm an admin (over 12 years) for a Facebook group that features odd images and graphics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
Jan Turkenburg:

Often I use multiple search devices, but not always. I'm facing an acute energy drain over here, so we're keeping the playlist nice and simple, today ;-).

I can definitely understand it. Conserve your spoons!

From Eddy Arnold Wikipedia page: "He became the host of Mutual Radio's Purina-sponsored segment of the Opry and of Mutual's Checkerboard Jamboree, a midday program shared with Ernest Tubb that was broadcast from a Nashville theater."

thanks, WR. Let's see if we can find some episodes of those.

I saw a vinyl LP on Radiola:

↳ Krys O. @12:11
Thanks, I love it when the information keeps coming in on the comment board!

That Radiola LP has a bonus of the Eddy Arnold RAlston Purina Show from 1954.

"Did you ever take look at a Duck?" Internal memo: sample that for FDL :-)

HA!
  Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
WR:

sounded like that comedian was provided with a professional audience to properly laugh and roar on cue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Krys O.:

↳ WR @12:23
Exactly. It was usually the crew that supplied the exuberant applause and cheers. They used to do that on Hank Williams' Health and Happiness Shows and many other Southern radio shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Did anyone hear the auto stream kick in for a second? Lost connection for a moment here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Krys O.:

↳ Jan Turkenburg @12:25
I thought that was me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm

Not the first time this week. Maybe I should have reset my modem...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm

↳ WR @12:23
My ex's dad used to play with Red Foley on his radio and TV shows. The band was a big part of "audience participation."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm
Krys O.:

As a side note, the Uncle Floyd TV show used to employ that same practice. The cast and crew off-camera cheered, laughed, heckled, etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
Krys O.:

Ernest!

Ah Clementine! Another of the greatest hits of Willeke and me in elderly people's homes

Sadly the Ernest Tubb Record Shop in Nashville closed a couple of years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm

Oh, correction. They announced the closing last year, but they were able to save it.

Bugs Bunny sang Golden Slippers in a cartoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm

↳ Jan Turkenburg @12:34
Gotcha. It's amazing what has survived.
  Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
WR:

Cattle Call was long one of Eddy Arnold's signature songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Krys O.:

Used to see the Grand Ole Opry on cable TV in the 90s and early 2000s. Eddy Arnold would still be in good voice in his appearances. So was Little Jimmy Dickens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
Krys O.:

Who keeps tickling these folks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
Krys O.:

LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm
Jan Turkenburg:

cackled 'shave and a haircut! two times' (also for future use ;-) )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
Krys O.:

There's that awesome mandolin player.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm
Jan Turkenburg:

This hymn is almost like 'She'll be coming round the mountain' slowed down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Krys O.:

↳ Jan Turkenburg @12:47
A classic chord progression. You'd probably hear that repeated in Carter Family songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
Jan Turkenburg:

↳ Krys O. @12:49
True. The first part of the melody was also identical.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm
Krys O.:

Chuck Berry was influenced by Country music because it paralleled the Blues, but for white folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
Krys O.:

↳ Krys O. @12:52
BTW I heard Berry say that in an interview.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Krys O.:

This has been so much fun. Thank you for presenting these shows, Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Krys O.:

The unison the Dezurik Sisters had was so precise.
