I'm so sorry that you're having kitchenware issues. Do you have a working range? If not, maybe save up/find a used rice cooker -- those things are also fantastic steamers. I hate hot plates personally only because I grew up very wary of them--burned myself a few times and they were also a major cause of fires in NYC apartments, so was raised with a double bias against them.

Thanks! Funny how norovirus works--it's like someone throwing a switch. You go from fine to cramps-uncontrollable projectile pooping with cramps and fever -- to bruised but OK again in about 3-4 horrible days. It's funny; after I got down some plain white rice congee - homemade -- I was suddenly STARVING 2 hours later. It's like my body said "Gurl, why u no eat in 3 days?"

Is it an electric steamer pot? I know what it's like to have a favorite appliance. I had my late Mom's Osterizer blender until the motor burned out around the winter of 2010. Mom got it for her engagement party. She married my dad in 1964. When it died, it did so spectacularly--engine caught fire; I pulled the cord out, cut the cord OFF so nobody would bring it home, and ran down 3 flights of steps with a burning blender and threw it into a snowbank where the recycling was...

No, unfortunately. I had the same situation the DAY i moved in to my current place. Part of the knob was stuck in the channel that you slide it into. Used a bit of stiff wire to get it out, and then had to source the part. GE wanted almost $95 for an identical part, Spamazon had a third party item that looked ALMOST identical for $12. Guess which one I went with? So now, as the knobs break, I am just swapping them out with the cheap ones.

Have you ever done dutch oven cooking on a oven burner. Why I'm asking is because my oven quit along time ago and I'm thinking this might be a alternative for baking and I get the impression that this is something you've done. So I just wanna get an opinion before I try it myself how well it works.

A concert from 2002 released in 2022, there have been so many William Parker releases in the last two years that I cannot keep straight what I've heard, what I've bought, etc. I thought, ah I don't have this, but found that I already have bought the special extra art work CD release of it. A good problem to have and glad Parker has a label working with him to release his substantial creative output.

You mean use a dutch oven instead of the oven, and use a burner on the range, or the other way around? Have done both, can advise.

Threemoons 🌛🌕🌜:

↳ Pax @1:15
And yes if you mean stovetop, there are a ton of guides RE using a dutch oven for stovetop baking. Even if the oven is kaput, it still holds heat, so if you use a really solid Dutch Oven and follow the directions, you can usually let it "finish" baking under its own heat in a closed oven to avoid burning on the bottom.

Using the reverse concept, I cook beans in my oven ALL the time. I just bring them to their initial boil and do a hard boil on the stovetop for 15 minutes from unsoaked dry, and then just pop em in at 350 and let them do their thing without me. This is when I'm lazy/stressed/need to get other stuff done and don't have time to babysit my unglazed clay bean pot...

Well, in one bit of good news for those oppressed by materiality, after my last functional pair of black jeans tore the other day in mid-cat-scolding, the tailor up the road says they can patch them -- and an older pair that had also worn through. This is crucial since I have absolutely no idea how to buy jeans since Pop's Popular Clothing stopped having any actual idea how to order and sell jeans. But it seems like I can kludge some propriety together for a little while longer at least.

I was getting shrink-to-fit 501s, and they'd usually last three years before needing to be patched or replaced. But since they are no longer on the same shelf of the same store, I seem to have no clue how to get them! And the Levi's store is more expensive, and I can't tell what's the same ones I had. I'm useless. They were like $65 at Pop's but seem more at the Levi's store.
