You were visiting the kids, no?
I loved Brooklyn when I lived there, but one of the main appeals of it was that it was close to Manhattan, which was where all the real action was. Now there are music venues, museums, a kazillion restaurants, even a basketball team (you think it got hip because I moved away? I still am angry with the Nets for going to Brooklyn a few years after I migrated to Joisey).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
coelacanth∅:

you can "overwinter" bulbs by digging a shallow trench, lining them up, top almost sticking out, covering with leaves.
easy access in the spring when you can plant.
some wont pop up the first year in their permanent location but at least they wont die.

Ha TDK - Brooklyn is like a foreign country to me - even tho I live less that 20 miles from there : takes me 2 hours minimum to get there , no matter train or automobile... There has been an exodus of Brooklynites to the northern suburbs -esp in the past 3 years... Folks figured out they could buy a house with a nice yard for less than they could a 1 bedroom condo...

We lived on Carroll Street between 5th and 6th avenues-5th avenue then was also a bit scary, you didn't wander there after dark if you didn't need to. The house next to mine was abandoned, had druggies there (mom's in the new coops next to it had to watch, be sure their kids didn't pick up hypodermic needles from the floor. It eventually also became a coop). Fifth avenue there now is quite upscale.

True, MOM!
I do miss Brooklyn, though. My older daughter lives in Manhattan now, have to say I'm a bit jealous (but my wife lived there before we were married, made her anxious, wouldn't want to go back).

i've fond memories of the jamaican festivals in prospect park; but also a memory of a little boy run over by a car. a big old boat. his leg was under the front tire and everyone was yelling at the driver to pull forward but she was petrified, locked inside. "white" woman surrounded by "black" people with a "black" child's life on the line.
finally they all lifted the car up and pulled the boy out.
