The Monterey film was hugely important to me growing up when the few channels one got then had certain flix on like once every year. Very much the CounterCulture discovering itself before any of the consequences came home - maybe tops my list for time machine options ! I'll be back in the Archives...

TDK60:

I haven't seen the film in ages but I seem to recall the camera work mixed up shots of Marty Balin and Grace Slick singing. Possibly the editor thought Balin's voice female? His voice does hit high notes sometimes more than Grace. I think it was the tune 'Today.'

I don't remember that. I'll have to go back and look

Three different mixes for Mr. Soul -- mono LP, stereo LP, and original mono 45. All feature different guitar parts.

Is this a later stereo 45?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Funky16Corners:

That's the original 45

@Mike - I have a stock copy of the first issue which was in stereo. I think the mono was the third or fourth US pressing

'Anthem' is such a trip. The Gratefuls at their most experimental, maybe.

I once asked an Armenian if it was normal to stress the third syllable of Armenia like Roger did there. No, he replied.

IIRC, you have to play the LP at 45 to correctly hear the opening monologue part of this song.

The Phantom Surfers’ “The Great Surf Crash Of '97” album pays amusing homage to this Hendrix track in their medley “X-Files Theme / The Extremely Stupid Files”.

I didn’t know the Beach Boys resented the hip crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Funky16Corners:

They were worried about how they were, and would be perceived by the hip crowd. Their progressive bent was a major bone of contention within the band
