DG:

Yes, I saw some Liverbirds clips (I think by hearing about them on M. Shelley's list below the playlists), another little-known R&R story. Lennon could be a dick at times; I've heard other stories about him being rude to other musicians (there's a story about the Turtles too). OTOH, Peter Noone said he was usually easy to talk to & once complimented him on his record being a hit. He seemed to have mellowed in his later years, making his early demise that much more tragic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...probly not the most arrogant thing a Beatle said that year...

Good morning Mike S.and OS listeners. Greetings from SF. Great set, Mike! Especially love Byrds version of great

Ray Davies said Lennon tried to intimidate him - no doubt cause Ray's talent threatened him. Still in street behavior mode.

...put another way - Lennon was a sharp & wounded person who tried to be top dog & wound others first.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm

...also - the sociocultural 'revolutions' of the 1960s tho rapid & intense took until probly the 1970s to start to include women's rights...

Love Ray Davies, & that makes sense....I can see Lennon being intimidated by his talent (I put RD up there w/L&M, Dylan & a few others). I think Davies had said some disparaging things about the Fabs too, so maybe that was after the Lennon encounter. I guess JL was just a jealous guy....

@DG Agree! RD among the great songwriters ;a brilliant, witty social satirist extraordinaire--and despite that remains, in my opinion, underrated compared with Dylan, L&M, J&R.

Beatles ha an edge with Arrangement & Recording - & Singing & style &tc. But that's exactly it : Ray Davies is not too much like Dylan, L&M, Townshend - but - is in that room.
