I used to buy Big Takeover religiously at Barnes and Noble, but now a lot the B&N stores I used to go to are gone, and the kids no longer bug me to go picture book shopping at the ones that remain (they're now ages 16 & 19; nearest stores: Manhattan or Paramus).

So I'm 3 or 4 or 5 or 8 years behind on buying the next Big Takeover.

Last few shows:

Slift (two French bands, one Brooklyn) at Elsewhere: $27 ea.
Lingua Ignota at Pioneer Works: $35 ea.
Myriam Gendron and Bridget St. James at Public Records: $26 ea.
Porchistas, Elk City, Glen Morrow at Alan6's back yard: $22 ea.
Johanna Warren (from Wales) and two other bands at Trans-Pecos: $15 ea. (canceled)
PigsX7 (from UK) at St. Vitus: $22
Screaming Females + bands at WEH: $25 ea.
Big Joanie (from UK) @ Union Pool: $20 ea.
Weeping Icon + 2 bands at Alphaville: $15 ea.

Quick takeaway: you can go out and catch bands for $12, but stuff you've heard of and buy tix to in advance tend more to the $20-$25 range for clubs.

I play bass, and I'm a finger player, and I'm really uncomfortable with a pick. I play uke with my fingers, and I can play guitar a little, but never in front of people, because I'm horrible with a pick.

The version of "Thirteen" you'll hear tomorrow night is sung by Skylar Gudasz is mesmerizing. Would have been great if Chris could hade mentioned Skylar and a few other vocalists who have been with this project since the outset and are a huge part of pulling it off.
