Guryan thought it might make a good album cover and interested Creed Taylor in the painting (who wanted to whiten the background). Taylor had chosen the painting for Gary McFarland's record. 	🥁 12:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63: ' Gary Robert McFarland (October 23, 1933 – November 3, 1971) was an American composer, arranger, vibraphonist and vocalist. He recorded for the jazz imprints Verve and Impulse! Records during the 1960s. Down Beat magazine said he made "one of the more significant contributors to orchestral jazz". A 2015 review of a McFarland DVD documentary called him "one of the busiest New York jazz arrangers of the 1960s". The review further stated that McFarland's "ascendance coincided with the rise of bossa nova, and McFarland was adept at translating the mercurial song form into orchestrations. He wrote some beautiful orchestral settings for great soloists, yet wasn’t immune to commercial forces." ' ' William "Sonny" Criss (23 October 1927 – 19 November 1977) ...An alto saxophonist of prominence during the bebop era of jazz, he was one of many players influenced by Charlie Parker. Sometimes the re-mastering brings out great things.. or just paints the music in a different light.. sometimes, the music is ruined. At least you could play it all you want without the labor involved with a LP. My copy is prob NM- but it does require effort and I don't play it too often. But I still prefer a clean copy of the vinyl.. irrational, many will say.
	3:27pm Dean: I have a vinyl copy, which I haven't played in years. No special pressing or quality. Now and then I enjoy A/B-ing vinyl/digital or Red Book CD/SACD.

Not that this was always so one presumes. In the Digital era - one feels we have been seduced by increased Dynamic Range (lack of Noise &tc.) - for their own (potential) sakes - & this has been much less so... Someone observed most of use Stereos to listen to Music - while too many 'Audiophiles' use Musics to listen to their Stereo. Perhaps we've gone a bit that way as a Culture ...aside from the broad concern of the Analog era generally expanding Musics in every way - & the Digital era then compressing them to fit into storage formats & to transmit via interwebz...

	🥁 12:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63: ' Gary Robert McFarland (October 23, 1933 – November 3, 1971) was an American composer, arranger, vibraphonist and vocalist. He recorded for the jazz imprints Verve and Impulse! Records during the 1960s. Down Beat magazine said he made "one of the more significant contributors to orchestral jazz". A 2015 review of a McFarland DVD documentary called him "one of the busiest New York jazz arrangers of the 1960s". The review further stated that McFarland's "ascendance coincided with the rise of bossa nova, and McFarland was adept at translating the mercurial song form into orchestrations. He wrote some beautiful orchestral settings for great soloists, yet wasn’t immune to commercial forces." 	3:25pm neveract: @Dean, re the SACD Bill Evans.. $30 is a LOT less than a really nice copy of the LP costs these days. Sometimes the re-mastering brings out great things.. or just paints the music in a different light.. sometimes, the music is ruined. At least you could play it all you want without the labor involved with a LP. My copy is prob NM- but it does require effort and I don't play it too often. But I still prefer a clean copy of the vinyl.. irrational, many will say.

Not that this was always so one presumes. In the Digital era - one feels we have been seduced by increased Dynamic Range (lack of Noise &tc.) - for their own (potential) sakes - & this has been much less so... Someone observed most of use Stereos to listen to Music - while too many 'Audiophiles' use Musics to listen to their Stereo. Perhaps we've gone a bit that way as a Culture ...aside from the broad concern of the Analog era generally expanding Musics in every way - & the Digital era then compressing them to fit into storage formats & to transmit via interwebz...

Sometimes that entails producing glorious music, sometimes it's just fun to revisit oldies in the collection. But I also have almost limitless disdain for audiophile fetishism, loving albums purely for their sound, rather than for the music.

I don't where then out in use - & b.) so I can listen to them in Digital formats that are what I use now. ...But yerknow - I dusted off the turntable & slapped on old pressing of 'Are You Experienced?' on - expecting bad antique Fidelity or something ...& surprise - it sounded kind of amazing. Anyhow - can totally see (& respect) enjoying the Act of it. Course - another aspect of Digital is Programability : here are all my Files - & - Click ...& here's the iTunes EQ for these speakers - like that...

	3:54pm neveract: I'm with you Dean. As they say in photography, the best camera/lens for the shot is the one you have with you! .. I was digitizing my collection but as streaming quality has improved I just stream for "casual" listening. Digitize the stuff that's not available to stream or on CD.
