She became a regular guest, known to listeners as "the Listener." They appeared together in Shepherd's off-Broadway theater piece Look, Charlie!, which opened in December 1958. They married on December 3, 1960, in Tarrytown, New York. It has been reported that they divorced in 1967. She never remarried or had children.
