Hi Kris, WR, matt, J!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:09pm
JtotheK:

a few weeks back i checked out area half price books for first time since before pandemic. LP prices went up! but found a merry clayton 45 for a dollar.
  🥁 10:09pm
WLSClark:

How many times have Motwon and Stax artists been mixed up by unknowing media?
Avatar 10:10pm
Kris Holmes:

Many times
Avatar 10:12pm
Kris Holmes:

I went to the HPB in Corpus on the weekend, it was pretty dire.
  🥁 10:14pm
WLSClark:

Despite 6 weeks without rain in Lincoln, the weather otherwise has been great much of last week.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
JtotheK:

i did find some good cheap mystery paperbacks. and there were a lot of LPs in locked up cases that made it very difficult to see what they were.
Avatar 10:18pm
Kris Holmes:

I hate that they still lock them up, so stupid, people's fingers end up wearing a groove in the cover from flipping the same spot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Matt from New Orleans:

When you say lock them up, is it like at the drug store where there’s a plastic door that folds down over the shelf?
  🥁 10:20pm
WLSClark:

J, maybe it's a Trump thing! haha
Avatar 10:26pm
Kris Holmes:

Plastic lock box with a finger sized slot in the top to flip them. There's many formerly NM LPs that have lost desirability because of the dreaded HPB finger groove :(
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
JtotheK:

at the HPB's near me - there are plastic bins with locks on them which contain the "wall of fame" records. and a narrow hole to fit your fingers into and flip through. but they cram so many records in, with many dividers, that even flipping is a chore.
Avatar 10:28pm
Kris Holmes:

exactly

Hey Kris, Matt, Clark, JtotheK, WR! Just got back from an in -store show at Antone's Records and then dinner with a friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Matt from New Orleans:

I haven’t been to one in a long time. I guess that stops theft but how much of their stock are they really putting out enough money to acquire that that’s really necessary.
Avatar 10:29pm
Kris Holmes:

Matt, exactly
Avatar 10:30pm

They still only pay about a quarter per LP

I’m still trying to get my head around the LP lock boxes. It just makes zero sense to me from any business perspective.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
JtotheK:

kris can we expect a CTI 45 themed tribute show?
  🥁 10:39pm
WLSClark:

Kris, the stereo version has different yells in the song.
  🥁 10:40pm
WLSClark:

Its like Neil Diamond with "Cherry Cherry" having different backing yells on it too in stereo version same era.
  🥁 10:41pm
WLSClark:

That lock box stuff is like going into an antique store in 80's and the one LP featured is a beat Elvis LP that might be $15! As if Elvis Lps were rare!
  🥁 10:43pm
WLSClark:

When I was a kid, I would buy a 45 that later showed up in stores with a pic sleeve. I would soon be sliding a 45 I wanted into the sleeve I missed out on and never got caught. Shame on me. Never did that with Lps.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:49pm

i pulled some CTI LPs to listen to and will at some point find some Verve and Impulse as well. i don't know if i have any CTI 45s. i had less CTI stuff than i remember, but i did get rid of a bunch a long time ago.

  🥁 10:53pm

Yeah, actually, I found them all when we moved her into a living facility, SO I got to ask about 1/10 of the questions I wanted to about them, so I got some great info. She had kept all of my grandma's stuff too. There was a 1898 Omaha Worlds Fair booklet original from then. A tin type of my great grandfather from 1880's. TONS of stuff!
  🥁 10:54pm

Bri, I even have a paper I wrote about DJs in grade school! SO funny!

That start, I thought it was Cry baby by janis!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:55pm

i think wax poetics has written about CTI label, but i can't find a specific issue via internet research. i feel like my tolerance for the smoothed out CTI sound has likely INCREASED over time.
