A song I worked on and wrote the intro hook (uncredited...) almost made it to the movie. They needed a "Motown" sound for one of the scenes with a girl group, so we recreated the Motown setup with a whole room of musicians and recorded it live except the lead vocal. It was fun. Played a Tele through Fender Bandmaster head and cab. The song got used in other films later though. But it would have been cool if Hanks chose it.

About monsoon in New Orleans: Mary Ellen has lived here since the 80s, and says it's the rainiest summer she's seen. The bougainvillea and elephant ears are growing like crazy, what with the sun, heat, and all the rain. I just had to trim some off the bougainvillea for most an hour -- two big city trashcans full. That's more than the volume of the entire bougainvillea was when I put it in, April 2018. And what I trimmed was all new growth since March. It never grew like this in 20 or 21. It was taking over the whole driveway, and leaving the nearby lemon trees in the shade.

Like 'Monster' as a reaction to the Cobain era (who they knew & Buck used his Fender on it even). Seems Monster was everywhere - even were it not a - Monster ??...

I think the Style Council records hold up better than ever. I'll take the SC over the Jam. Yeah, I said it!

Well ...makes me realize been too long since I heard Knickerbockers. Give it that...

Eighties record: it's that relentless, annoying snare with the gated reverb. Unfortunately, that was probably how it was often originally laid down on the multitracks.

The last two REM albums are worth revisiting. The had figured it out and decided "enough." The irony of Born in the USA is that it followed Nebraska and Bruce didn't realize less is more.

strongly disagree, Bob!

hey, I still root for 'New Adventures' and all of Peter's solo & collab. projects. I don't need to defend 'Monster' - that was a fave!

@Mike I’m at the supermarket so my commenting is way behind schedule. I can’t argue that the song isn’t great. Maybe he should’ve given it to somebody else.

Stipe is good with The Golden Palominos. Anton Fier asked him if he could not sing a little more clearly.

Next time you're in a thrift store, go to the CDs and take the "Monster" challenge. Bet you'll see that orange case even with your glasses off. Not a bad record. Just inevitable resistance by then.
