	12:29pm Franco Twinkie: I saw Rockette Mortan play one of those Dan Electros. He ran around the stage like a manic dog on a leash tethered to an amp that looked like it was going to fall over at any minute.
	12:30pm Bob Brainen: wmfrom D, Jeff Cotton's book amongst them? Drumbo's was massive and demanding I read part of it. Who else? Bill Harkleroad?
	12:31pm Gerry from Miami: Loved this Ornette album to death! All his best sideman! Had the pleasure of seeing the original quartet(minus Don Cherry--dental surgery earlier that day) at the vintage Art Deco Orpheum theater in downtown LA in 1984. It was part of the Olympic Arts Festival.
	12:32pm Dean: That '84 Olympic Arts Festival was a wonderful time to be in LA.

	12:34pm Bob Brainen: dan, they deserve it! Franco: Yeah, I've seen footage of Rockette playing one, there's that Cannes performance, for one. Gerry, Nice! I saw them ca. 78, maybe @ Kool Jazz Fest or whatever it was called then
	12:35pm Franco Twinkie: I think Lunar Notes by Zoot Horn Rollo is a good starter book for people who want to find out what really happened in Frownland. I too was at The Orpheum show. Man it was hot in there!
	12:37pm Gerry from Miami: Yes, Dean, it was. The AC was out of order that night at the Orpheum. They had to open all the side doors to prevent the musicians and audience from keeling over with heat stroke. LA was suffering a heatwave at that time. The music was very hot as well!
	12:37pm Dean: I attended theater and dance events, e.g., Piccolo Teatro di Milano, who did a stunning performance of The Tempest...in Italian! I met Peter Falk in the audience. Tadeusz Kantor's Cricot 2 performed. Kantor stood on stage directing the performers.
	12:39pm Dean: I remember seeing Jon Voigt strolling the UCLA campus.
	12:42pm Franco Twinkie: I also saw John Cage and Merce Cunningham that summer as part of the 1984 festivities. It was at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. It was on a Sunday Afternoon. Even though it was hot, I walked to the show from home.

	12:44pm dan: @Bob Only Gladys Knight is getting the honor, not the Pips. Unfortunately, two of my least favorite figures in entertainment, U2 and George Clooney are also getting honored.
	12:44pm Gerry from Miami: The time of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles was wondrous. Great time to be there! Musicians, visual, dance and performance artists, world-class athletes and many visitors from everywhere in the world. Cosmic convergence!
	12:50pm Dean: I accompanied a noted California theater educator to the shows. He knew some of the performers (and Falk). On p.40 of the program you'll see a photograph of the actor performing Arlecchino in Piccolo Teatro's commedia del'arte production. We went backstage to meet him. My friend had seen him in the first production of the show many years earlier.

	1:42pm doctorjazz: I don't think the count-off is really about getting a band to start together, else they'd do it every song (you always want to start at the same time). Even if it was, it could easily be edited out. I think it's more about generating some excitement in the listener.

	12:37pm Gerry from Miami: Yes, Dean, it was. The AC was out of order that night at the Orpheum. They had to open all the side doors to prevent the musicians and audience from keeling over with heat stroke. LA was suffering a heatwave at that time. The music was very hot as well!
	12:37pm Dean: I attended theater and dance events, e.g., Piccolo Teatro di Milano, who did a stunning performance of The Tempest...in Italian! I met Peter Falk in the audience. Tadeusz Kantor's Cricot 2 performed. Kantor stood on stage directing the performers.

On p.40 of the program you'll see a photograph of the actor performing Arlecchino in Piccolo Teatro's commedia del'arte production. We went backstage to meet him. My friend had seen him in the first production of the show many years earlier.
