JAMaantay:

Oh, unless there is something new that I don't know about, there is no passenger rail service in Jamrock anymore. I think it was eliminated sometime in the 1960 or 1970s. They have expanded the highway system, though, along the coastal roads between major tourist destinations, but to get anywhere else you are on narrow winding mountainous roads, not for the faint hearted. Plus it's all left side driving, but many people have American built cars, with left side steering, so that's lots of fun!
Avatar 12:32pm
LesleyK:

JAM just about traveling around the islands/Jamaica. Takes longer than you'd imagine due to the hilly terrain, correct? (It did for me in Grenada and in northern Trinidad, where I volunteered)

I'm going on a sunset boat cruise this evening!! (For a friend's b-day) โ›ด๏ธโ›ต๐Ÿนso excited!!
  12:38pm
JAMaantay:

Yeah, Lesley, the roads are not too good, their "major highways" are what we would call secondary roads. I tend to take the local busses and close my eyes, or private cabs. It takes a long time to get around because of the bad roads, and the slewer speeds. It takes about three to four hours to drive from Kingston to Portland, on the east side of the island, via the coastal road (as opposed to over the mountains, (which seems like it would be more direct, but!) Anyway, good luck to you if you decide to drive yourselves!

Hiya Mike and everyone! Ur sucha banana with da mic echo and percussion ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜น
Listening but canโ€™t chime in but u will say this:

not too crazy about Rum in the summer? I find rum based drinks sorta sweet or too syrupy /โ€œthickโ€ - it doesnโ€™t seem too refreshingโ€ฆ need something more thirst quenchingโ€” white wine (spritzer) or something tart like cider or lemony +vodka based?

Maybe I have not had the right rum
Drink ?
Open to suggestions!

Ok everyone have a happy Independence Day weekend!

Just googled rail service in Jamaica - apparently it was revivied for a brief period in 2011-2012, but it's gone again. I didn't know about it, because this was the time I was living in Glasgow, so I wasn't in Jamaica at all during that time.
