Academia has long been corrupted, subverted by the 'powers that shouldn't be'. A degree is proof of your fealty to the "narrative". They wouldn't give you information you could use to overthrow them with. And if you show independence, you have been identified as such.

Hey Fred. When I lived in Sacramento there was Second Saturdays where artists and galleries would be open to public, always a good time. I dunno if that is still happening. Anyway, it was like the artists were providing charity food and entertainment to the city, which is kinda backward.

Good to hear Butterman. The marketing is mostly a tribal networking thing. It is a steep sacrifice for an artist to take that route, once you buy-in to it you are on the hook to produce only 'acceptable' work. Otherwise your cut loose and destroyed. Per the example of Ariel Pink. They send a message loud and clear.

@The Butterman: From what I've heard some art schools are not all that into the market side. But by "local" I mean the Paris one, where it can be a culture shock for people coming in. I usually barely give a glance to the 4th year exhibition. Too much of a meat market vibe. And I've reached the age where people think I'm a collector or gallery scout, which is very awkward
