Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Welcome, Unknown Caller, Jeff formerly from Rahway, and our very own Stork!

That’s a +1 on the Souuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul……………..STICE info—of course I could find this out in person next week as well!
Happy Sunday Gaylord and fellow listeners! These sweet sounds are bringing us ever closer to a memorable sunset . Thanks for steering our ship Gaylord!
I lost track of time while prepping for dinner. Hearing some many lovely tunes coming out of the speakers, I was thinking how wonderful this Radio Row DJ was and must check their name. Hmmm…Gaylord Fields…
yeah that was one of your greatest shows ever. When I was a kid my brother and I would make the gag motions whenever my dad put WPAT on the radio but since he passed away in Jan, that music would remind me of him.
greetings, Gaylord! Everyone!
been lurking, mostly away from the keyboard -- enjoying the lovely music/vibes on what has turned out to be a lovely almost-Summer evening -- the Sun is just beginning to set over Jersey City, your selections are perfect :)
If the Archive players would automatically play the previous / next Episode of a Program - it'd essentially be every Program was / could be a Channel ~ Stream of its own ...not that FMU isn't already so far out on its own it's ridiculous...
There are Meteorological Seasons - considering climate & temperature ('Summer' beginning with Memorial Day for example)
- & there are Technical Astronomical Seasons going by length of days & position of the Sun on the Horizon in the Cycle of the Year, &tc. Your Solstices & Equinoxes. Which of course we Astrology Enthusiasts & Pagans are much concerned with...
& that's legit.
Hmm, that's a long time. If Gaylord spends five minutes each hour back announcing the music, by my calculations, he has spent 167 hours telling us what he played.
Gaylord! I did a little jig when I heard Les Surfs, and then the dedication! I had my hands full making tahini cookies (first time). I’ll give you some!
...this Program: to both have all these trax in your 'vocabulary'
...& then to also put them together to articulate a 'story' ...it's like PetSounds: both technically & affectively awesome. So to speak.
