JE Mainer's Mountaineers are not unknown to me... proto Bluegrass
  Swag For Life Member 10:33am
WR:

Hello Jan and seventy-eighters.

Have been listening since the beginning of the episode but was on a work call until now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am
MHLee:

I guess JE Mainer guested on the Wheeling Jamboree
"Beginning in 1967, J. E. cut a series of 20 albums for Uncle Jim O’Neal’s Rural Rhythm label, guested on the WWVA Jamboree and played numerous festivals while continuing to live modestly in his country home in Concord. "
  Swag For Life Member 10:35am
WR:

AHAH, I was just about to say that I was surprised that the Mainer's Mountaineers were in that collection. And you say it was a ringer to get the yodel in.

Jan Turkenburg:

Hi WR!
Avatar 10:40am
Ursula1000:

good morning Jan and listeners!
  Swag For Life Member 10:40am
WR:

Interesting MHLee, didn't know Mainer had more recordings in the late 60s. 20 albums?!?!?!

Jan, I get bogged down with many of the Archive.org 78 rips, when they have many many RIPs using different stylus and with and without processing and I don't know what all. I appreciate the transparency about the process and the thorough approach, but sometimes I just wanna hear the song optimally without analyzing. So I just listen to your program.

Many of the Archive.org

Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Ursula1000
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am
Jan Turkenburg:

I can relate to that WR. For this show, I 'm sure I had converted the left channel of the whole mix to mono, to make it easy on myself but one way or the other it didn't get saved. It's exceptional for susna to be in "stereo".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am
MHLee:

What a song lol
  Swag For Life Member 11:02am
WR:

Yes, that Happy Song, pretty funny.

WAGNERESKE? another not from that collection?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Jan Turkenburg:

The Dutch pronunciation is more like 'Shike'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
MHLee:

EI would make an I sound in German too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
MHLee:

Wonder how the word came to be spelled that way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
MHLee:

Wiktionary has it as rhyming with Shake and Chic
  Swag For Life Member 11:21am
WR:

American English often different from pronunciation of the original language. Wonder how Arabic speaker would say it.

For a moment I thought the Goodman recording was the instrumental break on the cowboy song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
Jan Turkenburg:

yes, turned out a smooth transition
  Swag For Life Member 11:36am
WR:

Guessing that was Hampton doing the vocal on the Goodman tune. Or Goodman???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am

I know these two from I Ain't No Communist
  Swag For Life Member 11:37am
