@Handy It occurred to me earlier that I had a dream about record shopping in Greenpoint and was thinking "what's the name of the place Handy is always talking about?". Not that you are always talking about a specific spot, but in the realm of dream logic it made sense. It was also very late at night (in the dream).

It seems the best Hendrix Covers are *not* from the heavy Rawkers & Gittarcentrics
...there's not another GittarHero who's also a Writer & Poet like Hendrix (among so many other things) - RichardThompson a bit - & I think Jimi helped drive Townshend away from Gittar pioneering & into Composing & Concepts in fact... I think Hemdriz wanted to get to where SunRa was actually : Cosmic Philosophy in place, big band, performance integrated with it all ...which was a tall order for a PopStar playing Hits Live to pay off his new very expensive Studio ...& didn't happen.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@tim: SRV was really a Post-Hendrix acolyte of AlbertKing. Hendrix was *the actual next step* of Evolution of Blues in the SpaceAge. Love SRV for what he was - & the comparison makes a lot less sense than consensus thinks it does. To me - SRV was the tough Texas bullet-chewing guy with thick strings & frets who always leaned into it - & repopularized Blues @ the least likely SynthPop-loving moment. & Jimi was simply the Brother From Another Planet.

@Handy - I saw Omar SOuleyman in Grant Park in 2010. There were Syrian families, spaced cowboys digging the scene, normal couples who showed up to dance and beer bellied hipsters at the event. I remember thinking "Yes! This is what it's all about!"

I have mostly-successfully made fried chicken by baking it and then finishing in the pan for the brown, crunchy goodness. And my kitchen doesn't reek!

Happy to hear Scott W live and in full effect. I must admit, as far as free comps go, those Mojo CDs always had something on them that caught my attention. A lot of cool concepts around those.
