Morning Jan and over/unders!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am
Jan Turkenburg:

It's not present in each song, but it will return throughout the show again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am
Jan Turkenburg:

I hesitated between "ripples return" and just "ripples"... Now I think of it... the xylophone in the current track is rippling as well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
chresti:

Then there's Ripple, the cheap wine..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi chresti!

WR:

There is Shep Fields and his Rippling Rhythm Orch. and there was a tune that had blowing bubbles sound in the tune that I'm trying to remember/ find because vaguely think it had ripple in the title rather than bubbles. It wax some band's radio theme if my fragmented memory is right.

Lighting Bar Blues.... that's got Ripple Wine in it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi PaulRobeson1922!
  Swag For Life Member 10:21am
WR:

Ah, yes, as I had thought, it was Shep Fields, from the Wikipedia page:
en.wikipedia.org...

"While relaxing between shows during a performance in Rockford, Illinois, Fields was seated at a soda fountain with his wife Evelyn. His attempts to develop a studio sound effect to introduce his music in Los Angeles had not been entirely successful. Struggling to find a solution for her husband, Evy began blowing bubbles into her soda through a straw. Bowing to his wife's inspiration, Fields immediately seized upon the idea and that sound became the trademark which opened each of his shows."

Wonderful show as usual!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Kitschy Mama :-)
  Swag For Life Member 10:31am
WR:

Don't know what Fields recordings might have the sound effect, I remember hearing some radio air check with the ripple / bubble sound being made during their intro.
  Swag For Life Member 10:34am
WR:

Lovely Willie "The Lion" recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am
Jan Turkenburg:

I'm hearing an echo of Grieg's Morgenstimmung in it.
  Swag For Life Member 10:37am
WR:

Interesting, will find recording to compare, not the first time a jazz musician adapted ideas from Classical source.
  Swag For Life Member 10:39am
WR:

Gotta focus on work, next meeting at noon ET so should be able to continue listening. Laters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am

Hey Ursula1000!
  Swag For Life Member 11:41am
WR:

@10:44 @MHLee: Just casually listening I didn't realize it was Bob Wills. Despite the lyrics change, it sounded fairly faithful to the Jimmy Rogers recording. I will be listening agian when I havectime for closer comparison.

Jan, another excellent episode. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am
Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am

@WR Indeed. Very faithful. That's why I had to say "wait this is Bob Willis". Very good show.
