Happy Summer Nick! Sounding good. I hear it’s 5:00 somewhere
Avatar 5:06pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey fredr! it's 5:00 here and I don't have to work tomorrow, but this is a four-hour show and I'm hungover from last night already, so I'm sipping seltzer and munching on edibles. How are you?
  5:12pm
fredr:

All good! I’m off and enjoying the weekend at the NJ shore sipping a Negroni. No edibles, just loving the music!
Avatar 5:13pm
djnogoodnick:

Sweet! Is it crowded down the shore yet?
  5:14pm
fredr:

Pretty crowded on the barrier island especially since the weather turned
Avatar 5:16pm
djnogoodnick:

I'll bet--this is already turning into a hot week. I usually spend summer in a cave.
  5:17pm
fredr:

LOL. I’m cool with the heat. Bring it on!
Avatar 5:21pm
djnogoodnick:

I'm sure it's pleasant at the shore. It's my least favorite time to be in NYC and I usually don't even bother to fight the crowds and traffic to go to Rockaway or LI. But I will be getting away for a few weeks in June, going to the UK and Spain.
  Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
WR:

Sounds like a nice trip that you are planning Nick.

I be here listening while doing some house cleaning.
  5:28pm
fredr:

Nice! I worked many years in NYC and the dog days are tough. We plan on getting to Barcelona in August if all goes well
Avatar 5:29pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey Walter! Yes, my first time out of the country in four years so I've been thinking about little else.
Avatar 5:30pm
djnogoodnick:

@fredr Barcelona region is where I'm going also. My brother's wife's family are from near Girona, which is an unbelievably beautiful small city.
  5:33pm
fredr:

Excellent, I haven’t been yet and a lot of friends have and looking so forward to it. Spent two weeks in Portugal before the pandemic which was beautiful
Avatar 5:36pm
djnogoodnick:

Ah yeah, still haven't been there yet--and a few of my favorite new jazz acts are from Lisbon. But there's only so much time, and I have friends I'm visiting in London (and I have tickets to see Emma-Jean Thackray!).
  5:43pm
fredr:

Yes, some good clubs and a cool jazz museum in Lisbon
  5:53pm
fredr:

And they’re starting to come around to the whole samba thing in Lisbon which I think was shunned for a time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
holland oats:

this is a nice song
Avatar 5:56pm
djnogoodnick:

Why was samba shunned in Lisbon? Because it was overdone, or because of racism?
Avatar 5:56pm
djnogoodnick:

Hi holland oats! Great screen name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
adamdoesit:

Hey djnogoodnick and listeners. Thanks for the mellow tunes this sunny late afternoon.
  5:59pm
fredr:

Might have been the latter, vibe I got from older guy I spoke to but all the cabbies and some restaurants have fusion on wherever we went
Avatar 6:00pm
djnogoodnick:

Could just come in waves (a bossa nova joke?)
Avatar 6:09pm
djnogoodnick:

@adamdoesit Welcome and thank you! We are starting mellow although I will be picking up the beats in a bit here to keep me alert for the next 3 hours..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
holland oats:

please reissue jo grinage when you get a chance thanks
Avatar 6:18pm
djnogoodnick:

YES! I was literally going to voice a plea for someone to do that for this Bora Rokovic too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
holland oats:

yes! this is also great. new sounz to my ears
  Swag For Life Member 6:29pm

Enjoying the Lloyd McNeill, new to me.

Amazing spiritual album.. I usually play "Samba for the Animals" which almost qualifies as a dancer.

Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

enjoying the sounds while otherwise occupied. hello, DJNN and folx!
Avatar 6:36pm
djnogoodnick:

Hi Mx. Baba Bee. What occupies you this Mem Day Sunday?
  6:38pm
kimsorise:

Hey hey, good people! Done with yard work for the day!
Avatar 6:40pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey Kim! That sounds nice (not the yard work but the fact that you're done).
  6:42pm
kimsorise:

Yes. Dinner,a doobie, this show, then some Stranger Things.
Avatar 6:45pm
djnogoodnick:

Oh right! I wonder if that's worth resubscribing to Netflix.. A very nice pre-holiday evening it sounds. I haven't actually thought about what I'll be doing after this. I've been nursing a hangover all day and putting together a four-hour playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
doctorjazz in the Berkshires:

Hi, Lazy ones!
Avatar 7:14pm
djnogoodnick:

Hi Doc! Are you in The Berkshires?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
doctorjazz in the Berkshires:

Nick, how'd you know? 😉
Here for the Solid Sounds Festival, which ended a short while ago (started Friday).
Been fun, but having fun is getting to be hard work!
Avatar 7:23pm
djnogoodnick:

That's the best kind of work! I'll have to check out what I missed. I don't really follow festivals too much, but a holiday in The Berkshires (Western Mass somewhere?) sounds really nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
doctorjazz in the Berkshires:

Yeah, love the Berkshires, this weekend was in North Adams, will spend a week later in the summer near Great Barrington.
Avatar 7:39pm
djnogoodnick:

It all sounds nice, but I have zero familiarity with that area. I am contemplating leaving the city for Kingston NY at some point in which case I may have the opportunity to explore New England finally.

Hiya Nogood Nick from the Uptown Stockade District.
Avatar 8:05pm
djnogoodnick:

No way! Heya Henry, how do you like it there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Webhamster Henry:

I've been living in Kingston for 20 years or so . I like it. You can email jhhl@wfmu.org if you want to chit-chat out of band (that goes for all of you)
Avatar 8:09pm
djnogoodnick:

Sweet! I have a few friend around there already but would love to get your perspective (or even meet up when I'm next up there).
Avatar 8:11pm
djnogoodnick:

Did you move from the city, or somewhere else?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Webhamster Henry:

I lived in Manhattan and Brooklyn for about 22 years before moving here. That was lots more convenient to WFMU (580 Springdale as well as 43 Monty)
Avatar 8:21pm
djnogoodnick:

I'll bet! You didn't have to commute to the station every day, even before covid? I did not even contemplate leaving NYC until remote work made it a possibility.
  Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
WR:

Heading out to look for place to eat, will be listening on my phone but writing my thanks now before leaving the screen. Thank you thank you Nick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Webhamster Henry:

I've been either remote or walk to work all the time. I only went in to the station to co host or hang out. I wrote the old WFMU pre-Kenzo software at home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Webhamster Henry:

My station credit was "Web Monster"
Avatar 8:33pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey thank you WR! Hope you find something good.
Avatar 8:38pm
djnogoodnick:

Ah, that's the life! I have never had less than a 45 minute commute to work. But I'll take a two-hour commute by bus over driving in and out of city traffic any day. But I don't think I'll have to commute to NYC.
Avatar 8:53pm
Listener Gregory:

Hearing the last 40 minutes of the show. Very nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm

Minnie ♥️♥️♥️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
Webhamster Henry:

I actually did do that bus trip a lot.. sometimes I did some excellent "bus projects".

Anyway the show is nice! I'm usually busy doing sometig else when it's on.
Avatar 8:55pm
djnogoodnick:

Thanks for dropping by everyone. Stay tuned for Cha Cha!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
solo mon:

Thank you nick! Great set!
Avatar 8:56pm
Listener Gregory:

I lived in Westchester a couple of years and commuted by Metro North. My commute was frankly the best part of every day... beautiful scenery, usually quiet, and I could either work or read, as I wanted to. Kingston is another order of magnitude, though.
  Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
WR:

Nice ending, book ending Minnie Riperton. Cheers.
