Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Welcome, phat in lincoln! Sometimes I have a song in my head all week that I know I want to play on my next show, and this Unrest song is exactly that.
Greetings Gaylord and fellow listeners!
I hope you’re all having a great weekend. I’ll catch this on the archives, since I’m on the subway on my way to meet a friend. Still catching little bits at subway stops though.
I liked the Humbleebums a lot; for a sec I thought it was Emmitt Rhodes, but then I recognized Rafferty's voice. I'll have to dive into the Humblebums a bit more. Great opening set; perfect for post-work decompression and chopping veggies.
Welcome, John L: Both of the Humblebums' LPs are recommended, and Billy Connolly turned out to be a more than capable singer-songwriter, but Gerry Rafferty is, of course, worth his weight in gold.

Funny. I see all the Gerry Rafferty comments. My affiliation with Mr. Roger Clyne & the earliest version of The Peacemakers was by way of me recording a version of Stealer's Wheel they did (live & in studio)..Stuck in the Middle. A song they covered early on in their formative days
@pht: You go that right! None of his Wall of Sound revisited UK hits made a dent here, let alone any Move songs. He's best known stateside as the guy who quit ELO before they became massive.
Had to run out of my car to get on my computer and find out what that smoking guitar/drum solo/echoey-recorded track was. Roy Wood "Get on down home" melted my mind!!!
I can't claim knowledge of the entire oeuvre, but "Little Red Scooter (Putt Putt)" by Tony Conigliaro comes to mind. And of course there's Rico Petrocelli's drumming on the John Kiley organ music album.
Ah, was wrong. Thought Sylvia preceded Mel - oy. There was, however an answer to Sylvia’s answer: “It's Good To Be The Queen / West Texas Rap” by DJ Casey Jones. Sorry @G - but Gaylord is a G among Gs.

In 1977, the band released a cover version of Wizzard's "See My Baby Jive" written by Roy Wood.[6]
