Don in Tampere:

Dang Brian, hope you're feeling ok now. Sounds like you got a wallop from Covid if you were out for 2 weeks. I've avoided it so far but with everyone around me getting it, I suppose it's only a matter of time, since Finland seems to think one can declare a pandemic over when tired of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am
Scott67:

Actually drinking light beer, so just a day mix-up, assisted by mild euphoric enthusiasm. I can't be drunk cos I can still say that.

Don, Finland isn't the only Country that seems tired with reality mate.

Same attitude here, sadly, @Don. Not sure how I got it, but thankfully, vaccines work. I escaped with mild illness. Still tired, though.

Hi all. I’m not a beer drinker but as inexpensive Asian beers go, I used to know a lot of people who would *swear* by Beer Lao. Dunno if that’s available in Aus though.

I'm drinking some shitty German lager right now
Avatar 4:05am
Don in Tampere:

I usually order my beer from Germany because I can get good beer (Paolo, your own fault if you're drinking shitty German lager, since there are so many good ones....) cheaper than Finnish raindeer piss. But interestingly, a small brewery in Finland called Kukko (fullly wind-powered too!) makes some of my favorit non-alcoholic beer for weekdays and Lent. At the moment i'm fasting so it's all water and herbal tea though.

Don in Tampere:

Paolo, Bitburger is reasonably good, but there are definitely better ones. For pils, my current favorite is Störtebeker Übersee Pils. For dark, one of the faves is Schlappeseppel Dunkel, first brewed for the Swedish king in the 1600s. Probably hard to get either one in Dubai though.

@Fred, I hope they all weren't waiting to vote for Le Pen.
Avatar 4:36am
Don in Tampere:

I don't get the hate for Chumbawamba. So they wrote a hit song, so what? It was almost a prank, as I understand it, and they didn't use it to get rich. I heard that the bought a van that didn't break down every other day and most of the rest went to political causes. And somehow the idea of anarchist pop instead of anarchist crust punk is appealing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36am
Scott67:

Hope not Brian!
Avatar 4:37am
Don in Tampere:

My first exposure to them was around the time of "Slap!", when they played Cafe Exzess in Frankfurt together with the Dog-Faced Hermans for a total admission of 3 Marks. Was a great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37am
Brian D:

And the song was catchy too, Don. How dare they? ;-)
Avatar 4:38am
Don in Tampere:

I used to do an acoustic guitar-mando-bass version of that song with my buddies in the Handlebars back in the day when I still lived in Germany.

Hello Brian & listeners.
Just bought a second hand copy of PJ O'Rourke's Age & Guile. Given his demise how was he viewed in the US with his transition from left to right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am
fred:

@Paulo: I usually start at the far left and eliminate any candidate with anti-Europe or xenophobic messages. Sadly, 5 years ago I ended up with the Socialist candidate (basically a milquetoast centrist moderate). So this time I went with Poutou, mainly because of loose ties to my favorite venue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47am
Brian in UK:

Nick Cave does remind me vaguely of one of my favourites, David Ackles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48am

G'day Brian. 🍻😎🤙
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50am
Paulo AD:

More power to you Fred :) you're a good guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50am
Brian D:

Hello @Brian. I think O'Rourke remained "above the fray" here, which takes skill. A lot of people loved his writing, even if they didn't agree with his politics.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am

@Brian: And the usual 3 far-left candidates (I'm not counting Mélenchon there) who could amount to a force if they could unite, but it's the usual story...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am
Brian in UK:

Was this song about his son?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01am
Brian in UK:

Fred over here Labour is pathetic with in-fighting when they should show a united front to be challenging Johnson & co.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02am
Brian in UK:

Always kind of liked the line nothing really matters on Bohemian Rhapsody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07am
fred:

@Brian: Speaking of in-fighting champions, a friend of mine used to sit on the board of the official radio of the French anarchist federation. Cognitive dissonance anyone? I do know people in various anarchist "groups", the idea seems to be that if more than 3 people agree on anything, it's time for a split
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am

@Brian, from way back, still tired and coughing but able to make it in. And @Fred, in-fighting on the left? How strange! ;-)

One endearing tradition is the splintering of marches for May Day. Some even march the day before or after. I once saw a parade of four guys with the red/black flag, followed by 2 police patrol cars and 3 riot police vans. The police/demonstrator ratio makes it intriguing as a tactic (not that it's one)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22am
