	12:48pm doctorjazz: I posted on Doug;s show, but WLSClark reminded me, went to a concert (Sons of Kemet), I had my N95 mask on, better than 95% of people in the venue were not masked, though. I don't see many with masks in stores. My daughter had been visiting home, her roommate told her she had COVID, now she's sheltering at our place again). I'm constantly exposed at work to unmasked folks (work with kids-try masking 1 year olds), rely on a good fit with a good mask (and will soon get booster #2)

	12:57pm doctorjazz: @Gerry, the official recommendation from the CDC just came this past Tuesday, so I'm sure they'll be updating and sending out notices soon. It's 65 and older, 50 and older with a medical condition, and at least 4 months after the 1st booster.
	12:59pm adamdoesit: Anecdotally, I'm hearing more first- and second-hand accounts of catching the virus among vaccinated folks here in NYC than makes me comfortable. I'm going to keep on masking for the time being.

	1:04pm doctorjazz: As the virus keeps mutating, the original vaccine seems less able to completely prevent infection. It does still work well at preventing the really serious infections, the ones that cause hospitalizations/death (the flu vaccine is like this as well-it isn't 100% effective at preventing flu, but does prevent the really serious cases). But studies in Israel do show that there is still some breakthrough after a few months of serious cases of COVID even with one booster, and it was significantly cut back with a second booster. In the end, it looks like the COVID vaccine will need to be periodically revised to account for new variants (just like flu vaccine is updated annually).

I don't see many with masks in stores. My daughter had been visiting home, her roommate told her she had COVID, now she's sheltering at our place again). I'm constantly exposed at work to unmasked folks (work with kids-try masking 1 year olds), rely on a good fit with a good mask (and will soon get booster #2)

It does still work well at preventing the really serious infections, the ones that cause hospitalizations/death (the flu vaccine is like this as well-it isn't 100% effective at preventing flu, but does prevent the really serious cases). But studies in Israel do show that there is still some breakthrough after a few months of serious cases of COVID even with one booster, and it was significantly cut back with a second booster. In the end, it looks like the COVID vaccine will need to be periodically revised to account for new variants (just like flu vaccine is updated annually).
