You think? I know nothing of this new fangled stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm

They were popular in late '70s -- I remember "This Is Radio Clash" and a bunch of disco records. Syndrums date records like Farfisa organs from '60s and Autotune will in future

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm

Seems the late 60's/70's are a time of classic Jamaican music, no?
  8:19pm
rw:

Actually, I think I should give her a call.
Avatar 8:20pm
northguineahills:

@drjazz: Yes it is, and I'd even say into the early 80s, then you start getting dancehall etc.....
🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
WR:

Thank you for playing the dub version. Dub my Bell
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Gary:

What NGH said. Recorded pop in Jamaica kind of begins with copies of American soul as the soul dried up and they needed things to battle each other on sound systems with. Also, mento (a kind of calypso). Then ska, then rocksteady, and it's like 1967 or 1968, and reggae, and, yeah, dancehall takes over at some point in the 80s and doesn't loosen its grip
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
doctorjazz:

I didn't hear a break, the dub was part of this recording (on a single, you would have had to turn it over for the dub version)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Zipperhead7:

Oh man that dub version c'est la merde!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Gary:

Ha, not sure, Dr. Jazz -- but what I played was from a CD compilation, so it might have been combined for that
  8:24pm
adamdoesit:

When I think dancehall, I hear airhorn… and vice versa.
Avatar 8:25pm
northguineahills:

The Congos!

@Drjazz: Ring My Bell was originally a 12" (hence the dub running seamlessly)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
doctorjazz:

That explains it, NGH, thanks!
Avatar 8:28pm
northguineahills:

well, the sleng teng riddim came in 85, and that's the bedrock of many dancehall tracks....
