By the way, the low-res-ness of the Smersh cover is just the way the cover is -- early computer graphics, I guess.

This tape has 31 short tracks with long titles, mostly in German and all collaged together, so while I will read the titles off, I'm not going to add 'em to the tracklist ... I'm a lazy bastard, what can I say.

i guess it has/had a lyric sheet included too. Quite an odd release, this.
Avatar 12:42pm
Tony Coulter:

Yep, I've got a lyric sheet -- it's folded up and stuck in the cassette.
Avatar 12:45pm
Tony Coulter:

To me, it's sort of lo-fi basement pop crossed with mutant NDW (Swiss division).
Avatar 12:49pm
Nick S.:

i think the best part of this stuff by Olliwor is that he barely knew what he was doing. It reminds me of what a lot of my friends did when they first started playing.

TDK60:

Nick S. In the '80s/'90s, myself and others would hear new bands live that didn't play so well (yet). They sometimes came up with new sounds, especially in timbre, in a way that more accomplished musicians often didn't. Then, we would steal their ideas in order to get fame and fortune. (Nah.)

no, the mutant NDW bit fits, a la Alpine whatever. He's leaving no prisoners, of course.

Mark Williams:

i see that the Swiss dropped their neutrality in the context of Russia's invasion. This after the recent leaks of Credit Suisse bank dealings, which showed how they without fail find ways to open accounts for all the cleptocrats you can shake a stick at. I think to be an outsider in Switzerland probably takes an extra level of crazy. All hail Olliwor.

Tony, I saw recently that Korm Plastics actually did a complete cassette reissue of two of their mid-80s cassette compilations. Cassettes are back in at the moment, and I'm wondering what other cassette labels from back-in-the-day will decide to join in.
Avatar 2:18pm

Insane Music, for one. And EE Tapes too.

Mark Williams:

in more disturbing news, both Death in June and Boyd Rice videos have been making it into my Youtube feed of late. I think I invited that when I was looking at Shockheaded Peters stuff.
Avatar 2:22pm
Tony Coulter:

I love Lemon Kittens and solo Karl Blake, but haven't heard much Shock Headed Peters. Where would you recommend starting?
Avatar 2:24pm
Tony Coulter:

I think all I've done is needle drop through one of their records, which seemed surprisingly "normal" for Karl Blake.
Avatar 2:25pm
Tony Coulter:

Not sure which record it was.
  2:26pm
Mark Williams:

oh boy. Well, the "Not Born Beautiful" album introduced them to all. And yes, SHP was "normal" in comparison to Lemon Kittens or Sol Invictus. He likes Black Sabbath and riffage. In SHP he decided to make a record that didn't shy away from that palette, but then it was still Karl Blake and his unique voice/poetry.
  2:30pm
Mark Williams:

it's strange to remember that early SHP came out on El Records. Not your typical El band, but still. From an early EP:
