The Star Prize on today's show goes to anyone who can find any evidence outside of the photograph at the top of this page that La Marr's Masters of Melody ever existed. I dug at Newspapers.com, Discogs, Google - bupkis.

Hiya Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Scott67:

Music as a soothing balm ironybread! Now who wants to rub it in?
Avatar 1:41pm
Mr Fab:

Sorry I missed the beginning of this. As ironybread may have pointed out, Count Otto Black is a Scotsman who contributed to my old blog "Music For Maniacs," and he sent me a big ol' stack of (virtual) shellac of an exceedingly silly nature, saying that the channel can do with it what it wills. Hence, Mr 'bread making a special show out it all. Thank you, Count!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
ironybread:

mmm...rubbing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Derek Westerholm:

Laughter is infectious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
ironybread:

Ooh! Now Dr. Internet vomits up this little datum: "La Marr’s Dance Band – Albury, NSW, 1926". Scott, as the listener who's currently closest to this town in New South Wales we're assigning you to write a book about them, please
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Scott67:

& painful currently!💥
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Derek Westerholm:

Ugh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm
Derek Westerholm:

Laugh around your ribs... through your kidneys maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Derek Westerholm:

What's the recovery timeline, Scott?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Scott67:

It's just over the Murray River, Victoria / NSW border. Wodonga being the Vic Sister Town. Thought you'd enjoy the name.
👍😎🌏
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
ironybread:

Every town's name in Australia is a pleasure to say out loud
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Scott67:

Dunno Derek, but ribs take a while. Not my first rib ripping rodeo though, unfortunately.
✌💀👣
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
ironybread:

Dear Scott, I wish you regular breathing, gentle movements and as much time spent upright as you can manage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Zipperhead7:

Wikipedia: "The Melody Masters were a series of first-rate big band musical film shorts produced by Warner Brothers". I guess they were a precursor to soundies? I love the names of the performers:
Noble Sissle & The Washboard Serenaders
B. A. Rolfe & the Men About Town
Borrah Minnevitch and the Harmonica Rascals
Tip, Tap & Toe
Minor & Rot
The Kidoodlers
Three Sirens & Three Orchids
Tito and his Swingettes
Helen Warren & the Lipham Children
The Cubettes

Isn't it still pre-dawn Down Under, Scott? You're up before me! Hope the rib-tickling isn't keepin you awake. Or am I just lazy.

My son had a similar accident in a group "night ride" in LA, he had drunk a tall strong beer, blacked out and woke up in a hospital with a slight concussion on the back of his head. He wore a helmet after that.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm

In case you're wondering where our Otto picked up his pseudonym: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 2:01pm
Mr Fab:

I actually have a swell CD of Borrah Minnevitch and the Harmonica Rascals. Yep, no other instruments, just harmonicas. You used to be able to have bands like that in those days. So I was amused to hear a Frank Zappa interview where he said that he wanted them to open for the Mothers.

A New South Wales band on an old picture, maybe even plate photo. Wales, plate, that reminds me of someone...
