Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from February 4, 2022 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Thanks for asking, Phillippe-better, at least he's mostly sleeping at night. Long story, but we took him off all meds his vet prescribed (at the advice of his hotshot "internal medicine" specialist vet), and now he just wakes up once a night to pee (rather than pacing all night). He does have Canine Cushings Disease, though, will start meds for that soon. And probably some doggie dementia. And, unbeknownst to us, he's blind in 1 eye. Oy! (but we sleep, life is good)

Hi ho, Uncle Michael! I remember watching Dinah Shore's weekly variety show back in the 50s and 60s. Sponsored by Chevrolet, she would sign off at the end if every show with this song that advised us to "see the USA in your Chevrolet, America is asking you to call." And then she would bend back and thrust a big hand-over-mouth kiss out to the viewing audience. Pretty popular program, but I thought she was a mediocre talent, singing-wise.

@johnk77. Well, Gleason did have a larger-than-life demeanor. But he was a pretty heavy drinker. My grandfather worked at a fancy restaurant where all the famous people went in L.A. If he was drunk, he would talk about all the misbehavior and lechery. This is what he had to say about Jackie Gleason "He's so fat he'd order TWO giant steaks!"

This year's list of nominees for induction onto the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was just released. Not a prog band in sight! No ELP, Jethro Tull, Procol Harum, or King Crimson. But Eminem, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Dollie Parton and Dionne Warwick are up, among others.

Uncle Michael, maybe after that cover of "What Time Is It?", you might play(at some date in the future, of course) the original version by the Jive Five.
