The whole tale of Nova selling poorly in Spanish speaking countries because of name translation was bullshit. The people who told the tale lied to us, man. They LIED to us!
I don't want the Monte Carlo, but I like seeing it.

Advice for a juror: tell the truth, stick to your guns, listen closely to the judge's instructions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm

(in fact, i think '71 was the best year for them, appearance-wise)

And when you are asked to deliberate, in fact you should deliberate. Listen to the other jurors, even if their opinions strike you as foolish.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Ike:

@coel∅, re: your question about the Peruvian tiradito on the Bodega playlist: no, there was no candy in there. That was probably red pepper.
  10:33pm
?:

I disagree. Do let other jurors bully you. That's why you're given the freedom of almost complete privacy. Some bullying will strike you as biased. Other instances will strike you as strongly held points of view worth taking into account.
Avatar 10:35pm
still b/p:

Yes, though I wasn't and ain't any kind of motor-head, glossy 70-71 Monte Carlo with mags and the engine that's got that power sound....makes me feel things. But that's not how mine looked or sounded...thought it had hella pickup from 30 to 60 mph.

All the jury lessons/guides are in Twelve Angry Men. They SOLVED that shit and outed prejudice and family wounds and Henry had JUST the right knife in his pocket! Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, but do bring it to the deliberation room.

hiding - listening to a bully and still deciding for yourself is not being bullied. no one on earth under any circumstances should allow themselves to be bullied. even more important when a fair assessment of someone else is involved.

Will the next big Prince reissue be "Around the World in a Day" or "Controversy"? They seem to be moving outward in both directions from "Purple Rain"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Sam Segal:

More jazz to come, Doc, not to worry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

@Ironybread, "Around the World in a Day" would be awesome. It would probably include a couple of interesting versions of this tune, as it was B-side from those sessions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

No problem, Sam, digging the sounds: (who can complain with Prince on?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

@RW, I am actually kind of looking forward to it. A bit stressed about managing some deadlines at work if I have to be out for a little while, but I think that should be manageable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

I did jury duty a couple years ago. The worst part was that it requires long periods of sitting in an over heated courtroom. The best part was when we got to meet in the jury room and crack jokes as we were "deliberating"

Avatar 10:55pm
still b/p:

Twenty year boots, used for walks to work in some winter conditions for years and now for some outdoor work. Didn't cost much, never expected the endurance. Ankle high, dark leather...like a rugged desert boot shape. Oversized so I can stuff sock layers for cold...but have to add socks even in summer so they'll fit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
doctorjazz:

I had a pair of camouflage boots, got them on sale from some Manhattan store-lasted more than 20 years (but I generally only used them to go out in the snow).
Avatar 10:58pm
still b/p:

Also a pair of Hermans from the 80s only recently started separating from soles...but they had a long hiatus in use.
Aviator mouse boots for coldest woods trips in winter definitely more than 20 years old.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
coelacanth∅:

i have sneaker-boots over 2 decades old but were never the daily drivers for more than a year or 2...and after a while -different depending on the sole -the sole rubber hardens so it's not as comfortable, and there's less traction

I had engineer boots with vibram soles that lasted from 74 to the early 90s. one of the tongues tore, that was about it other than a very scruffed surface.
