	8:54am Gerry from Miami: In Vietnam, the Lunar New Year is called TET NGUYEN DAN. One of the more pleasant experiences of my wartime service there in 1970-71 was being the guest of honor at the TET celebration with a Vietnamese family whose sons were my English students at the province middle/high school. The food was magnificent, the company warm and friendly, with everyone able to celebrate freely, not worrying about the war raging around us. It was also an opportunity for me to speak completely in Vietnamese for 3 or 4 hours straight despite the boys' insistence to practice their English. Sadly, after more than 50 years removed from the combat theater, my language skills have eroded somewhat, but during the isolation and restriction of the COVID pandemic, I have managed to brush up a bit. Something gratifying in a period of loss, desperation and insecurity about what the future holds for our world. Celebrating the Lunar New Year will always revive these pleasant memories from so long ago.

	8:54am Gerry from Miami: In Vietnam, the Lunar New Year is called TET NGUYEN DAN. One of the more pleasant experiences of my wartime service there in 1970-71 was being the guest of honor at the TET celebration with a Vietnamese family whose sons were my English students at the province middle/high school. The food was magnificent, the company warm and friendly, with everyone able to celebrate freely, not worrying about the war raging around us. It was also an opportunity for me to speak completely in Vietnamese for 3 or 4 hours straight despite the boys' insistence to practice their English. Sadly, after more than 50 years removed from the combat theater, my language skills have eroded somewhat, but during the isolation and restriction of the COVID pandemic, I have managed to brush up a bit. Something gratifying in a period of loss, desperation and insecurity about what the future holds for our world. Celebrating the Lunar New Year will always revive these pleasant memories from so long ago.
