For a long time I thought "meh" about Neil Young, so perhaps that's why my favorite albums of his are the ones no true Neil Young fan really likes, such as 'Trans' and 'Landing On Water'. Plus 'Transformer Man' off 'Trans' is oddly enough the very first Neil Young song I ever heard, back in hmmm, 1984? Though I did not believe it was him at the time.

I have to say, selection here in the states is terrible except for at the higher end of the market, and I just can't really go there often. So I have mapped out which stores carry which single malt at a reasonable price and alternate among them. It must be their distributors because it's a different one at every shop. Though I have my choice of many bottles priced over $100! I guess the market is pitched a little above my level (i.e., "Scuzz Pirate").

I did! I thought I'd written you back! That book looks really interesting if quite scholarly. One of the chapters is about a cross-border station after the Partition that would have the DJs do dramatic readings of listeners' letters from both sides of the border. Sounds pretty incredible.

And I have noticed bits about govt. trying to enforce nationalist ideas by dictating, e.g., only classical modes be played, and what kinds of resistances and slippages came to be around that.

Good to have relevant musical accompaniment! I look forward to exploring.

I took a Mozart course in college (more about the mythmaking in Amadeus contrasted with his actual music and life than a music course per se) with a prof who turned out to be the head of the college's Music Department. She took us to another section of the academic hall where they had a bunch of keyboard instruments, including a harpsichord. I'd never seen one IRL. She and another student sat and played and it was riveting.

Would also be lying if I didn't wish at that moment that I too could play, and that I could pluck out the Addams Family theme.
