A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

"In fact, the next mission of the ill-fated Challenger was scheduled to carry the nuclear-powered Ulysses solar probe satellite into orbit late in May. The Ulysses and its Jupiter-probe cousin Galileo, which was also scheduled for launch this spring, are each fueled by nearly 50 pounds of plutonium-238."

The most effective protest I ever saw was in downtown Oklahoma City when the Silkwood/Kerr-McGee stuff was going on. People stood on street corners handing out tiny bags of rice, and each had a label that read "If this were plutonium you'd be dead."

I remember the first time I'd bought a used record over EBay, the seller stuck a Best of Bread and a Three Dog Night album in there as a space buffer but I had thought I had been punk'd in a most cruel way until I fully unpacked it. It was actually pretty funny, like he knew I hated those bands.

WR:

Oy, vey, years ago I was buying LPs off ebay. No problems but I was paying 5 to 10 for something that I would pay 2 to 5 for if I was crate digging. There is too much interesting stuff out there for me to pay more than garage sale prices. So I had to stop completely. I may have to do similar with CDs via DISCOGs. I need to learn to just listen to WFMU and leave the collecting to others.

Crass are very Dada. I didn't realize it until I was much older. Ever see that footage of Penny Rimbaud on some 60s beat show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm

Yeah, it's asking to be cut up, innit?

I believe Penny had some Fluxus connections also. Probably why acts like Exploited and GBH badmouthed them as hippies.

Yeah, and living on a farm sort of pegged them as 'middle class hippies'.

I actually am about to pick up the last thing I need to turn my living room into a studio, I have a show idea I've been meaning to pitch here... been talking to GG and Jan about it a litttle

here's the question, it's 25 F out... do I walk 1 mile and go to the endless free food I am entitled to as a grad student?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm

We're still remote, the students are coming back but community members aren't yet. I would like to stay remote/prerecorded as it's not really practical for me to come to the studio anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm

Oh wow. Never seen that comp before. It's got Smegma on it!
