The first time I heard this was in Ohio. They played it at the exit of a limestone cavern I'd toured.

what about Jack Hodges, the Raspberry King, MHL? Do You have the wonderful 'Everything is Fresh Today'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am

Joe McGasko would love the surface noise on this recording.
  11:13am
Listener Robert:

Hi right back! And I didn't know the name of it until now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
David (in London):

Lovely track but, to be honest, if I were going to be hanged at dawn, not sure Kipnis is going help much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
Jan Turkenburg:

:=)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
MHLee:

I did not! I have a lot of songs about bananas. Why Aren't You Eating More Oranges? ... I loved Laurie's I love Onions... there's the original hit version too but it's actually an awful record in my opinion
Avatar 11:19am
worldsworstrecords:

yes, the original was by a Canadian singer (IIRC) whose name escapes me now... minor hit in the States I believe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
MHLee:

The same Canadian singer, I believe also had a rather good psych-folk album which makes the I Love Onions track more interesting in context...
Avatar 11:22am
worldsworstrecords:

Susan Christie... i always preferred the Laurie version though, more of a kitsch/camp vibe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am
MHLee:

The Laurie version is definitely more fun. Susan is a little too austere.
Avatar 11:25am
worldsworstrecords:

This is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
Jan Turkenburg:

The point in the show, where I remember to add the disclaimer underneath the playlist...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am
MHLee:

I have all these "Jewface" recordings... that are dialect comedy recordings... I got interesting in them because a sizable number found their way into Tiny Tim's recordings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am

I think he said Pawn Shop, but I swear I heard Porn Shop

Feldy, it was actually 'prawn shop'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am
David (in London):

Double Bowlly, nice one Jan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
MHLee:

Frankie and Johnny? It is ancient
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am
MHLee:

based on a real murder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am
MHLee:

I think the original was frankie and albert though and you can find so recordings under that name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
MHLee:

Not to be confused with Albert and Dupree and the Dupree blues family based on a different story
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
Jan Turkenburg:

I know, MHLee I was talking about Johnny and Jones. They were singing an old Dutch children song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
MHLee:

Oh I missed that.
