Hi Jan!

WR:

Hello Jan and MHLee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi WR and MHLee!
  10:07am
MHLee:

Weather has been disturbingly warm here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am
Jan Turkenburg:

Overhere as well. We might have a warmth record on New Years day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am
Jan Turkenburg:

Normally temp doesn't get higher than 50 F in winter but they are expecting 56-57
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am
chresti:

Hi Jan and over/unders! It's pouring in SoCal and 50F
  10:14am
Listener Robert:

It would be fun to think the photo is of you as a child DJ.
  10:16am
Listener Robert:

Good! Does the change mean the Saturday program will no longer conflict with Bad Animals on the main channel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi chresti and Listener Robert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, the show will air between noon and 1pm EST
  Swag For Life Member 10:17am
WR:

Will now be on the same time as the 1st hour of Double Dip Recess.
  Swag For Life Member 10:18am
WR:

Oh noon start time! Much better!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am
Jan Turkenburg:

No, that I wanted to avoid that!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am
chresti:

Which show, this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, noon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, chresti, the saturday edition of this show
  Swag For Life Member 10:19am
WR:

On Saturdays Chresti.
  10:20am
MHLee:

Somehow it didn't move into the time I'm on air. Might even make it more often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am
chresti:

So before Fuji Puzzle Box?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, before FPB
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am
Jan Turkenburg:

So it seems it's more convenient for everybody here! Good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am
chresti:

Ah, good. I was worried the LA representative had been moved!
  Swag For Life Member 10:24am
WR:

I was away from the screen during first set. Was puzzling over the guitarist. Sounded a little bit like Les Paul but seemed like someone else. Didn't guess Chet Atkins.
  10:27am
MHLee:

What language is this?
  Swag For Life Member 10:27am
WR:

This Kwa Toemboe recording!
  10:31am
Listener Robert:

Oh, unfortunately the new time will conflict with Bob Brainen on the Drummer stream. WFMU, as Ken says, is the station that would rather compete with itself than with others.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31am
Jan Turkenburg:

As I said on air: Indonesian

  10:33am

@WR there's a chet and les record worth seeking out
  10:33am

I'm already sacrificing half of Rex to listen to Bob B.

Ursula1000:

good morning Jan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Ursula1000!
  Swag For Life Member 10:44am
WR:

At least there is the archive and a 1 hour program is reasonably easy to fit into one's schedule. When i listen from the archive I comment less, but will still ask or add anything I think is significant and can't easily search. And I also thank the host as well. For much of the first year of Under 64 I was listening from the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45am
Jan Turkenburg:

It's pleasure, WR and keep those thoughts on the archive going! (and for everybody: I read all the comments made on my archived shows!)
  10:46am
Listener Robert:

Funny, I thought that "Black Bottom" was The Varsity Drag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am
Jan Turkenburg:

They sound much alike, Robert
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am
Wenzo Toad:

hey Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hey Wenzo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am
Wenzo Toad:

this is nice... Im gonna have to ad this show to my favorites page to listen to the archives while i work out in the park
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am
Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
Wenzo Toad:

is this track old enough to play on here? one of my faves...
m.youtube.com...
  Swag For Life Member 11:00am
WR:

Yes, the Indonesian recordings, particularly the 2nd one you played, sound like a blend of influences. Still unpacking. Will relisten and research a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, 1955 '56 '57 is just old enough Wenzo.
  11:02am
Listener Robert:

The only word I think I got from that was "kwelling".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am
Jan Turkenburg:

Next year tracks from 1958 will be allowed. However I already decided we'll stop at 1960, if the show's still on in two years (which IS my intention btw)
  11:03am
MHLee:

Have this on a folkways comp
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, sometimes wfmu can be quite a kwelling :-)
  Swag For Life Member 11:04am
WR:

That African compilation that you linked to on uboob Wenzo, is very nice. I have it in my bandcamp wish list.
  11:07am
MHLee:

There are a couple of labels on bandcamp i have to stop myself from buying 500 dollars worth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am
Rich in Washington:

Hi Jan!
Digging these over 64 sounds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am
Rich in Washington:

my sense of time is all screwed up because I'm on holiday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
Jan Turkenburg:

My senses are permanently screwed up...
  Swag For Life Member 11:14am
WR:

Yes, the Völker recording certainly carries baggage based on what came after.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
Wenzo Toad:

so is the name of the show gonna change every year starting in 2025? or you could just change it once to “sounds that are not pretty darn old not allowed”... bit unwieldy... hmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Wenzo Toad:

“Darn old sounds only”?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Jan Turkenburg:

LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Wenzo Toad:

yea somebody gave me that collection but I lost it when my computer crashed... but that track was always my fave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
Jan Turkenburg:

Well, on second thought we might find a way to maintain the atmosphere of the show and still allow more sounds each year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
Wenzo Toad:

No!! that’s not allowed Jan! you play one track from 1961 and WR & Rich in washington & i are gonna pitch a digital riot up in this comments section!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am
Jan Turkenburg:

Oh please do. Let's have some ranting!
  Swag For Life Member 11:20am
WR:

You played Al Bowlly and David in London didn't pop in.

Happy holidays David in London wherever you are today.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am
Jan Turkenburg:

Good observation WR. I had him in mind of course!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am
MHLee:

We just have to find throw back recordings... like Lawrence Welk show stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am
Jan Turkenburg:

That was what I was thinking of, MHLee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am
MHLee:

the strangest LW show recording is One Toke Over the Line
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am
MHLee:

youtu.be... alright I'll be here but dissecting flies, cya on the chat board
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Wenzo Toad:

Vernors isn’t ginger ale! Plastic is an abomination! Littering is a sin! That rolling stones song you played yesterday isn’t a rolling stones song! Both parties suck! Western Massachusets independence now! Liberate your toes from evil corporate foot prisons!
this is what you get for making these petty threats Jan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Jan Turkenburg:

hahahahahahahahahaha!
  Swag For Life Member 11:37am
WR:

Letting it slip to 60 is a mistake. 1958 and no further! The name of the program must change to hold the line! 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71. -- The Conservative Coalition Against Creeping Values (TCCACV)
Avatar 11:38am
Mr Fab:

Happy to catch the last hour, and the ranting n raving.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
Jan Turkenburg:

:=) :=) :=)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Mr Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
MHLee:

Jan, I don't know if I've mentioned this but listening to Yes, We Have No Mountains, is like tuning into a classic rock station from another dimension. The songs all sound right but you don't recognize any of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am
Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks MHLee, that's nice to hear.
Avatar 11:46am
Mr Fab:

I leave it up to you, Jan! I dont hear many DJs here playing '50s records, so pushing it back is fine by me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am
MHLee:

I think the most important thing in this show is the majority of the songs should be pre-rock... but that's same philosophy I use elsewhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am
Jan Turkenburg:

I agree with both of you. Maybe we can play the odd 1960+ track in two years as long as it's in an earlier style (and I can do some equilizing to make it fit in ;-) )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am
Wenzo Toad:

“sounds before 60”...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
MHLee:

In 1960 I think the Sheridan and the Beatles recordings are made. I think playing Ain't She Sweet, being an older song covered by the Beatles could be worked in if properly mixed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
chresti:

58 is soon to be the cutoff year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am
Jan Turkenburg:

No!! changing the name of the show is not an option!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
DJ Babs:

Great show today Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am
Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks DJ Babs!
  Swag For Life Member 11:56am
WR:

Wenzo, there's a good idea. Since the TCCACV is against creeping values, a single change, draw the line in the sands of time. Make it clear where we sit as we listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
DJ Babs:

I do love your olde timey sounds!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
chresti:

Don't need to change the name. Thanks Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am
DJ Babs:

Happy New Year to you too!
Avatar 11:57am

as always, thanks Jan.

WR:

Walter "Fats" Pichon played for many years, up to the early 60s, in the New Orleans French Quarter. Some of my acquaintances there remember seeing him and he was still a legend in The Old Absinthe House when I moved to New Orleans in the late 70s.

Thank you Jan for another great episode! Greatly enjoy your curation of recordings from the earlier parts of the previous century.

Chat with you next year. On Saturday...
