Hi there Jeff and all other listeners!

Hey hello, @Andrew in Toronto!
Avatar 🥁 8:47am

looking forward to three hours of songs about Boxing Day!

Greetings, @hyde! And an annual tradition is born!

the stream serving up some Art Ensemble to lead into DO Radio. I think that's called kismet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am

Yeah, @hyde! I hate to break into it...

London calling. Hi Jeff and assembled post Christmas groovers.

Hiya, @listener james!
@Listener Gregory! Welcome and understood.
Great to see you, @Morgan!

Good morning, Jeff. Was just cleaning up a leaking radiator. A big deal if people live below.

David in London:

Hi TDK. Living the Boxing Day dream there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
Jeff Golick:

Yikes, @TDK60! A hassle, indeed. At our apt, we have utilized the super-modern fix of jamming pieces of wood under one side of the radiator, to help move the water toward the pipe side.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:15am

Don't cross the streams, @UM!

Good morning, @doctorjazz!
Avatar 9:18am
TDK60:

Good morning, David in London. | Jeff G. This was that little steam release nozzle leaking, I think. I'll tell the building superintendent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am
Jeff Golick:

Oh yeah, that thing, @TDK60. Those can definitely be replaced; I think they just screw on? Do you "bleed" your radiators?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am
Uncle Michael:

I'm fortunate to be able eschew the term "man cave" in favor of "studio" for my personal sanctuary. I just swapped out A/V receivers in the studio for amplification of the "monitors" (speakers to lesser mortals). The one in here uses a test mic for tuning the sound and you sound no more wonderful than ever now. Alas. There was no room for improvement.
  9:22am
Morgan:

aw TDK i wish I had bequeathed my radiator key to someone like you before moving
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am
Jeff Golick:

I don't know about *that*, @UM, but I know I'm jealous of your set-up (and know-how).
Avatar 🥁 9:23am
hyde:

i come to DO Radio for the music, but it's the radiator talk that makes me stay
  9:25am
Morgan:

the funny thing is when our steam radiators used to clang and whistle, my husband would say is that the radio, or is the heat finally coming up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Uncle Michael:

If it's Friday, it's Bryce, Morgan. And that hurts my feelings.
Avatar 🥁 9:27am
Listener Gregory:

I had friends come to New York and rent an apartment for a few months. They were complaining about how utterly impossible it was. The radiators made all these strange sounds! In the middle of the night!! I kept saying, "Yes?", waiting for what the problem was. I tried to tell them that this was all perfectly normal and expected, but they couldn't stand it, and bugged out.
Avatar 9:29am
TDK60:

Jeff; I don't "bleed" out the radiator. This building is over 100 years old. I betcha there are water stains on ceilings in several apartments. It may have happened on a few prior nights as some wood has curled a bit. Didn't notice till now. A super has to take care of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am
Uncle Michael:

This is Dada-riffic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am
Jeff Golick:

One does get used to the clanking, @LG, but having moved about four years ago, I do still find I'm adjusting to the new rhythms of the current radiators. One is a steady and heavy hisser.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am
Uncle Michael:

I hear my radiator leaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am

Yeah, @UM! Glad to see this one has been reissued recently.

Let me say it and get it over with. I have this record (Collier) and found it very well played, but it all gave me the impression of A Love Supreme Redux. I found it hard to get over that.

Morgan:

maybe because sound is ephemeral
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am

@LG: I think it's hard to not harken back to something like that when playing high-energy spiritual stuff; not bad company to be in, even if one doesn't quite reach those heights.

Good morning, Jeff and all! Happy to see other Boxing Day celebrants. This must be the place!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am

Such Tyneresque piano, the Trane quartet on steroids (if that's possible)
Avatar 🥁 10:20am

@doctorj, YES. I am yelling at my family about this, and they are all giving me, "Who is this McCoy Tyner?"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:21am
doctorjazz:

(been just listening with she's closed, looking back at the comments... I used to have trouble with every band sounding like the Coltrane Quartet, every sac sounding like Trane. I have less trouble with that, as it's not the overriding sound any more).

doctorjazz:

LG, been there, done that...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:25am

Ecstatic activity: Listening to James Newton play the flute while reading James Newton's writing about Eric Dolphy playing the flute.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:25am

I've come to terms with the idea that some musicians/bands will channel The Beatles, some Coltrane, some Ornette, it's what they can do with it that's interesting (... Or not...).
  10:25am
Andres:

I wish my kid had picked up the flute instead of French horn in music class.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am
Jeff Golick:

How's the French horn sounding these days, @Andres?
Avatar 🥁 10:31am
Listener Gregory:

I would guess that French horns are more in demand in orchestras than flutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am
Jeff Golick:

We just watched Only Murders in the Building, which was cute; a bassoon player is a featured character, which I enjoyed.
  10:33am
Jacinda:

Or, as Republicans in congress called them a few years back, Freedom horns.
  10:33am
Andres:

Jeff: Early days still but not enough practice despite having cautioned against a large brass instrument as I recall what a pain in the neck those were for my friends to bring home.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, we've reached that threshold for sure. Thanks for hanging this long, @LG.
Avatar 🥁 10:38am

My understanding is that the preferred name is now just "horn," as they are not actually French.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:39am

My younger daughter picked a bass clarinet for her band instrument, bigger than she was (I thought it was cool, but she eventually dropped it for guitar, which she eventually dropped).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am

Only horns from the French region of France can properly be called French horns.
Avatar 🥁 10:42am

i can't tell a french horn from a mellophone
  10:45am

Would it follow that only an instrument made from an animal horn (ram, cattle) could properly be called a horn?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am
Jeff Golick:

Btw, Urge Trio = Tomeka Reid (cello); Christoph Erb (soprano and tenor); Keefe Jackson (tenor, sopranino, and bass clarinet)
