500 KG Lihaa = 500 Kilograms of flesh. The name is a pun on Howlin' Wolf's song '300 pounds of joy'. That 'Etkös Ole Ihmisparka' is their debut, does not come by every day, plus it'll make a hole into your pocket, as in my case (85 euros or what did I pay for that...) no re-release to date. The members are known in Finland for other things, like Kauko Röyhkä & Maritta Kuula are slightly better known for their solo careers.

More info re: 500 KG Lihaa. It was a side project for Kauko Röyhkä & his then girlfriend Maritta Kuula and their mates, they took old finnish poems (early 1920s or so) and made this rather provocative music to accompany those poems with. Two more lp's came out in the 80s, 'Ruusumajassa' (1986) & 'Akvaario' (1988) plus two more after a long hiatus in 2000s. OK,and that wording 'slightly' was a bit of an understatement, this is more obscure stuff than the more "mainstream" (if you can call his music that, god forbid) stuff Kauko Röyhkä has done for instance.

@5:08 Julie: well, they did manage to offend people with this recipe. There is a clip where they were performing a version of Finnish hymn 'Joutukaa Sielut' (= Hurry up, souls) only to be booed at by the other performer of that show, the Finnish policemen's choir... Talk about a time when even Northern European TV shows used to be inventive and mad.

Quoting myself from 5:15: Hey, Andrew Hollywood! Thanks for the note and all the stuff! As soon as it's safe to go to the PO, we will send you some stuff. K8's band used to play the Way Station, where you were going to before everything went to shit.

Anita Lane had a style quite similar to Jeffrey Lee Pierce of The Gun Club in that neither of them did not always bother to hit the "right notes" with their voices but did a more convincing job with any song really than those with more traditionally musical/melodic singing voices.

Big Star (with X-Ray Spex) is rather high on my list of missed gigs. So stupid of me not to go when both Alex Chilton & Poly Styrene were still alive, both Big Star & X-Ray Spex were in London around August/September 2008 i think?

Oh, Goblin has a wider face, and Bugbear has some white tufts in his ears. And Goblin is definitely more the sweetie while Bugbear is a bruiser (though they are both total cuddlers). But also: Goblin has a green collar, and Bugbear a black one!

Thanks and praise be, Julie! Very glad to be here for this!

Culminating nearly a decade of fearless, uncategorizable radio, Jesse Kamsinky airs one final broadcast of Neighbors Noise on WFMU's Give The Drummer Radio. From the burbling of a random brook to the bleepy blurping of a TR-808 synthesizer, Jesse treated all sounds as being worthy of exploration and celebration. On the radio he championed anything audible and we listeners were the devoted beneficiaries. Tune in to the final episode of Neighbors Noise and wish Jesse well in his new adventures!
