Oh, you saw Bob at The Beacon. I looked at last minute tix, bit pricey. I've never seen him, doubt I will but maybe...

ムーヴ is move written phonetically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome, TDK, Gary, and ZZZ! Thanks for spending some pre-Thanksgiving time with me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for the translation, WR! I'll update the playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Sam Segal:

@TDK: Tix were fairly steep, yeah. I got them when they first went on sale. Sprang for them because my girlfriend is a big fan and she'd never seen Bob live before.
Avatar 10:18pm
TDK60:

That's a great theater; betcha it sounded good.

I got to see Dylan in the 90s, at a guitar legends concert in Spain (talk about expensive tickets-but I lucked out on that one. A friend who was an editor of a Guitar magazine I wrote some reviews for, Guitar World, was sent there by his magazine and he took me along on the magazine's tab. It didn't actually make sense to have Dylan as a guitar master, but nobody cared, he got a great reception and did a great set!

wow doc, nice way to ride to Spain.

Hi Doug. | Looking on a map, that photo may be in Harlem between 116th - 120th, on St. Nich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
Sam Segal:

@CC: I really like that whole album. A lot of different sounds and collaborators on it from across the São Paulo creative music scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Sam Segal:

@Doc, did you see any actual guitar legends during that festival?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Sam Segal:

@TDK, I wonder if that payphone is still there...
Avatar 10:27pm
TDK60:

St. Nicholas goes diagonal across a grid, hence several of those little triangle islands.
Avatar 10:29pm
TDK60:

..but above isn't an island just a sharp corner. Golly, oughta go into urban studies...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
Sam Segal:

I briefly lived up near 145th and St. Nicholas. Hamilton Heights. Beautiful area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm

Sam, The list was long-it lasted 5 days (that Wikipedia link lists them all), but I was really happy to see Robbie Robertson, Albert Collins, George Benson, Dave Edmonds, Steve Cropper, and the biggest thrill was an interview my friend had arranged with Richard Thompson (during which I put my foot in my mouth, asked him if he could play Ellington's Rockin' In Rhythm live, which is on his 1st solo album. He hemmed and hawed, said no, it's very heavily overdubbed, and I felt pretty bad for a bit. But he was extremely nice to talk to, overall it went very well).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Sam Segal:

Wow, that's quite a group of guitarists. Seems like a great experience. Wouldn't beat yourself up about Richard Thompson...that's the price he pays for overdubbing ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
coelacanth∅:

mind if i edge in here?
Avatar 10:49pm
Constantly Choking:

On the edge of itself I think, edgy like its sharp, culturally sharp......?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
Sam Segal:

Careful now, Coel, don't cut anybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
coelacanth∅:

you're sharp tonight Sam
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
Sam Segal:

@CC, that's an even better answer. Maybe I should reach out to this guy via email and try explaining that definition of edgy.
🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
WR:

"On The Edge of What" album to be released soon by Doug Schulkind's new band as soon as he decides on the band name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
coelacanth∅:

i wouldn't mind the term edgy if it weren't usually applied to music (& other things) that are bland and mimicking something else more genuine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
coelacanth∅:

Doug always has trouble thinking of names for his bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm
Sam Segal:

I wish I remembered what I was using the word "edgy" to describe to this guy. Maybe I should ask him if he remembers.
Avatar 11:06pm
Constantly Choking:

@coela haha that's true, I've never heard anyone call GG Allin or Merzbow edgy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
chresti:

Maybe you were saying Burt Bacharach was edgy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Sam Segal:

Now that you mention it, Chresti, in those days I was fond of positioning Bacharach as one of the 20th Century's great avant-garde composers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Ike:

Now I want Indonesian food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Sam Segal:

Where do you go for good Indonesian, Ike?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
coelacanth∅:

CC yeah they're well beyond the edge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
coelacanth∅:

i only want indonesian food right now if it's indonesian chocolate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
coelacanth∅:

...which probably isn't usually great...but it's chocolate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Ike:

I don't know of any great Indonesian restaurants in NYC but there's a very good Indonesian fest in Elmhurst, Queens, every couple of months or so. They rent space at St. James Episcopal there. Also there's the fest in the rear parking lot of a mosque in eastern Astoria sometimes. Check this website regularly for upcoming food fests: www.eatingintranslation.com

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm

What's good for that, WR? A waltz?
🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
WR:

A samba perhaps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Sam Segal:

Okay, I'll see what I can do!
Avatar 11:48pm

like this Perila tune
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm

Thanks, CC! Thought it could serve as a nice comedown tune as we close out the night.

Looking forward to your jazz show! Loved the Yukichi Kasaku/men, especially when the singing and drumming were mostly in sync, which reminded me of some music from India.
