Eli - it looks like the Bonzos set will be out next year - my work on it is 90% done. It will be worth the wait - lots unissued material in addition to newly mastered versions of every album and all the singles + several DVDs (which I have not seen).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm
Candy-O'67:

When you get a chance, Andrew, check my page. I've had a felt record plate cover (I don't know what to call it, haha) on my page for forever from Breakaway! It's got their cool James Brown logo :)

  7:10pm
Eli Miller:

So Andrew I know I keep asking you this question over the years from various messaging formats from twitter to discogs. But how does a college student become a reissuer/recording engineer? I know you have to first know how to record properly and mix sound and I'm hoping to go to a good mastering school to show me how to do that. But I know most schools don't focus on the remastering of old songs. Got any advice or how I can get into the reissue biz sooner? And yes I know the industry is dying but I hope I can help make an awesome revival with my work!
  7:13pm
WLSClark:

James Holvay will love having you play this. A great song he wrote of many for the Bucks. He has just released an amazing song as a tribute to the Chicago RNB sound that his group the Mob sounded like. You can hear Curtis and Major lance in there every second.
www.youtube.com...
Avatar 7:15pm
cometothesunshine:

Eli - it is very much a DIY sort of business. The best way to start is to self-produce a sample of your work to show people or license something and put it out. Labels aren't really looking for producers anymore, they want content creators that they don't have to pay. They prefer people making their own playlists. If you are willing to work for free, you will eventually find someone who will test your skills. Unfortunately for me, reissues are now just a hobby - I have to do other things professionally to make ends meet. I wish I had more positive direction for you.

Avatar 7:22pm

  7:22pm

I swear this 45 would have been hug a year earlier. I just don't get how they dropped off so fast, when the music was still excellent.
Avatar 7:23pm
Eric R:

Eli, that was a looooong time ago. Find someone doing what you want to do, volunteer as an unpaid assistant. As Andrew said, "if you are willing to work for free". You can learn a lot and then go for it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm

  7:26pm

Eli, I hope you don't think they will want you to make great music like this. I can't even fathom what type of music would be done by you at the point you get paid. Music is SO bad these days with their fake drums and everything autotuned.
  7:26pm
Eli Miller:

I'm in Indiana and that is true Eric. I got in touch with some people actually about helping out with a Neil Innes Legacy Project which seems cool and I hope to hear back from them soon about my first research dig about him!
  7:27pm
WLSClark:

Eli, just be sure to expect a Spanish Inquisition.

Clark - feels like they had all the elements of the Chicago hits of just a few months later (maybe missing the heavy guitar).
  7:31pm
WLSClark:

Guercio tried to get many B sides for money, but THIS one is an excellent one he wrote.
As to the heavy guitar, they used it on the remake of Exceptions on "This is How Much I Love You" and it was terrible while his old group did a great upbeat job on that song.
Avatar 7:32pm

WLSClark...I couldn't agree with you more...music just isn't bad...it's terrible. That's why I won't listen to radio here in Southern California/L.A. It used to be so good...now...in my opinion...a wasteland. Modern Pop music isn't about good melodies or words anymore...it's about who has more FB, IG, and Twitter followers now...extremely sad.

sw2442, yes and even tho the early MTV years were exciting, it helped lead to artists having to be PRETTY to sell records often.

This is where I have to jump off - everyone have a good night and Happy Thanksgiving! Loved the Buckinghams tunes, Andrew!

I found this Guercio song quite cool as a kid using JFK in it.

By looking at the "Foreign Policy" pic sleeve, it seems "Susan" was the B-side. Did DJs flip it over to make that the hit?
Avatar 7:45pm
cometothesunshine:

Yeah - it was unfortunate I had to edit a few of these to fit my show length - a longer version of this spotlight will be available at a later date
  7:48pm
WLSClark:

Other side of the pic sleeve listed Susan first and had a slightly different picture too! When they performed on Sullivan in 68, they were seen in these uniforms too!

We are so happy you are back, Andrew!! Thanks for another super excellent show! Clicky starred it!

Despite Billboard pushing Kind of a Drag to #1, WLS only got it to 2 because of Monkees BUT WLS did push Dont You Care to #1.

7 year old shows are interesting (and fun) but brand new ones are the best!
