Hello Horsemen!
  10:03pm
rw:

Evening! What is this Real Universe you speak of?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm
drowsy:

hey doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm
drowsy:

Hey Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Sam Segal:

Drowsy, RW, Doc! Thus far unannounced Horse Friends! Welcome, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Sam Segal:

Hahaha, good question, rw. We're going to have to have some "direct experiences" and see if we can figure that one out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
coelacanth∅:

greetings Sam, idealists, realists, trannies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome, Coel! I think the last term on your list may be considered not-PC these days, but I don't think you mean it that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm
chresti:

Hi Sam and Japan horse group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Sam Segal:

Chresti! That's a nice looking pickup in your avatar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
coelacanth∅:

haha Sam -of course i'm way behind on the dos and don'ts of fashionable terminology...
clearly it's a play on the episode's title; but if someone has a problem with it they're more busy trying to control other people than with living their lives.
not trying to offend. i've known "trans" people who called themselves trannies. it's only offensive if you decide to be offended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
Sam Segal:

Not to worry, Coel. You won't be "cancelled" on my watch! I totally get your meaning in context. Just wanted to pass along what I've learned about how some trans people feel about that phrase.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
drowsy:

I thought Coelacanthø mean transcendentalists to go with the idealists and realists. srs. the nihilists might get mad but somehow I doubt that...
  10:43pm
rw:

Holy cow. chresti's list of pledged support is out of control. Half to shows I've never even heard of. Way to go chresti! Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Sam Segal:

Haha, drowsy, if you get mad about a word, you're not a real nihilist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
coelacanth∅:

haha drowsy -along those lines
  10:45pm
rw:

coel, are you calling me a realist??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Sam Segal:

(Internet) Radio God(s) bless you, Chresti!
  10:47pm
rw:

coel-ist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
coelacanth∅:

rw that'd be like the pot calling the kettle black!
...(is that epigram okay still?!)
  10:49pm
rw:

probably not, but I can't keep up either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
Sam Segal:

Haha, Coel, I think that one still flies, but I'm no expert.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm
coelacanth∅:

i transitioned at a tragically young age...but i still have some idealist in me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
drowsy:

I am imaging this song coming from the van in front of the shop in the playlist. Sam you are making this varied set work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
chresti:

rw, I'm afraid to look!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Sam Segal:

Glad it flowed alright for you, drowsy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
coelacanth∅:

damn, chresti it took 12 minutes to load your profile page because of that list!

i wish i could afford to do that. (any year, let alone this year. the largest variety of shows i've donated to in one fundraiser is ~22. you've got over 30!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm
chresti:

Thanks Sam, that's the pickup we came to California in 1965
Avatar 11:01pm
Hams:

damn, maybe i should've spent that $30 on the weerasethakul. was hanging around there all festival.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Ike:

I unilaterally declare that the music world has reached its limit on "Lil" artists. Time for the next few to go with "Minuscule", "Tiny", or "Shrunken" instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm
Sam Segal:

@Hams...you didn't miss your chance. Memoria is coming to IFC Center in late December www.ifccenter.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Sam Segal:

@Ike, that ruling seems just, but it would only be fair if we also ban future artists from starting their name with "Big."
Avatar 11:08pm
Hams:

ah, ok. great. thanks, sam. one of the shorts program was a favorite. and glad i got to see RADIO ON & the hong sang soo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
doctorjazz:

Loving these string sounds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
doctorjazz:

Though Louca send seems to have something out of tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
Sam Segal:

@Hams, which Hong Sang Soo did you see? He's so prolific he had two at the festival this year. I saw "In Front of Your Face," and it blew me away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Sam Segal:

You've got a good ear, Doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Ike:

This is acceptable. And my cats concur.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
coelacanth∅:

most bands that have the word "big" in the name aren't great anyway...i think there's a sociological &/or psychological explanation for the correlation.
surprised there hasn't been a yale university study
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
Sam Segal:

@Doc, an interesting bit from the press release for this Maurice Louca record: "[Louca received a] commission for a new composition to be performed using instruments that [he] would modify to play microtonally. This led him to Turkey and Indonesia. In Istanbul, he worked with a Lutheran to custom-make a guitar. In Surakarta, he ended up with an instrument maker tuning a Serang—referred to as the Indonesian xylophone, part of the family of Gamelan tuned percussion instruments."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
doctorjazz:

I see at this point why they didn't care about a little out-of-tune-ness...becomes unimportant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
doctorjazz:

Sure, claim it's microbial-I've used that excuse when I play guitar slightly out of tune...😜

WR:

Hello Sam and Segalistas. Have been listening all evening. Now checking to see what playlist comment profundities I may have missed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
Sam Segal:

@WR, thank you for alerting us to your presence!
Avatar 11:20pm
Hams:

saw INTRODUCTION, good one. i ended up just seeing whatever rush tickets i could get. was nice to have some time off work and hang around the lincoln center.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm
Sam Segal:

Hahaha, Doc, now you've got me thinking some band should claim their music is probiotic..."like kimchee you can listen to."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Sam Segal:

@Hams, I'm glad that between the two of us, we're fully caught up on Hong's 2021 output.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Ike:

I tried making my own kimchi recently but it was pretty disappointing. The mostly made-in-China red-pepper powder that virtually every store sells -- even the H-Mart in Woodside -- can't possibly help. The one I bought was tasteless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
doctorjazz:

That's some circular breathing demo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
drowsy:

Ike don't give up on the fermentation! You'll get there!
  11:26pm
rw:

Big Brother and the Holding Company
Avatar 11:26pm
Hams:

ha, yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm
doctorjazz:

What a nice transition! Cool, Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
Sam Segal:

Glad you dug it, Doc! Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
doctorjazz:

This is wild with headphones, really moves around in space...
  11:38pm
rw:

Big Black, Big Star... trying to think of Big bands. So far that's it, but my brain doesn't work well in that particular direction.

Switching to headphones per doctor's orders...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Sam Segal:

In general, I think my final sets tend to pair well with headphones, as I have to don them while other members of my household (girlfriend and cats) sleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
coelacanth∅:

hmm maybe it's just the local bands with "big" in the name that suck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
doctorjazz:

Big Kimbrough fan...
(Reminds me, Ben Allison is playing in Manhattan this week our so).
  11:41pm
rw:

Big Audio Dynamite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
coelacanth∅:

well,no i just thought of one, nationally famous...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
doctorjazz:

Giant Sand is even bigger than big.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
doctorjazz:

Maria Schneider Orchestra is playing at NJPAC-I think Kimbrough was their pianist at one time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm
Sam Segal:

Would be cool to see the Maria Schneider Orchestra live...I imagine the sound is quite, well, big.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
doctorjazz:

Seen then a few times, great band!
This Inner Garden was cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Sam Segal:

I saw Yarn/Wire & Travis Laplante perform that Inner Garden piece in its roughly 40 minute entirety at the Stone. Very cool to see it played live.
  11:57pm
rw:

Headphones are working swimmingly. Thanks doc.
  11:57pm
rw:

Oh, and thanks to you too, Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
doctorjazz:

Schneider's Orchestra does great things with tonal color, arrangements...
🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
WR:

Old The Stone or new one at the university? I haven't been to the new location (new, what 4 years ago...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
doctorjazz:

Great show, Sam, thanks!
Night all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm
Sam Segal:

It was the new (School) Stone. Miss the old Stone space. Much better vibe at the old location, but the programming is still great at the new one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam!
'night y'all
🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:00am
WR:

Yow. The Stone has reopened but in addition to the expected requirements: " everyone must have had a negative PCR test result within the week"

Not that I am going out yet.
🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:00am
WR:

g'night all. Thank you Sam.
  12:02am
rw:

Thanks Sam! 'night all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am
chresti:

Thanks Sam! goodnight everyone!
