Hi Adam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm

It's so strange to think of the amount of resistance toward rock 'n roll in the 50's
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:06pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Glad to not be a teenager any more! Hi Jan, Hi Adam!

Hi MHLee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
MHLee:

PK, Adam.... say that last song was close to rock'n'roll... closer to Louis Prima, sure, but almost
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, Peter Koelewijn is considered to be the first Dutch language Rock 'n' roll artist
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I think youth culture still was new in the late fifities. Before the 2nd world war, children in the Netherlands at least often were supposed to join in the working processes right after they left school. No time for goofing around, no time to develop a rebellious mind.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Jan Turkenburg:

good point, PK

Yes, I've been counting down the days to this show!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Mr Fab!
Avatar 12:12pm
Mr Fab:

Did the Netherlands have a "problem" with the young hoodlums, gangs, etc? Was there much controversy over rock n roll?
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Oh that well-pronounced Dutch of the Fouryo's. it makes me want to throw Kurhaus-chairs at their fresh washed faces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
MHLee:

Eeenmaal must be the Dutch for of Einmal which means like once or one
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I think there was a more aggressive youth culture here, but it never became a problem until the mid-sixties. See Nozems - Wiki: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@MHLee: Exactly! It means once more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
MHLee:

The nozem look more greaser than Teddy Boy
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:19pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@Jan: Beterschap! Glad to be of help.
Avatar 12:19pm
Mr Fab:

Nozems! That's my Dutch word of the week. Or year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
MHLee:

My grandmother considers Frank Sinatra too raucous... she probably would have cursed radio for playing this teenager music
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

You even had Brozem as a derivative, a nozem with a brommer (moped) Brommer more or less euphemistically translates to buzzer or hummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
MHLee:

Wow, perfect clone of Sue Thompson here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
MHLee:

Who apparently just passed away
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Funnily enough, all songs are about love and relations. Except Peter Koelewijn's song. You should think at a certain moment the young folks would get fed up of hearing just love songs. But no.

Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

André van Duijn started as a tape parodist. Performing with a self-edited tape with all kinds of silly stuff. After that he became a well known and loved comedian.
Avatar 12:34pm
Peke:

André van Duin is Hollandse Urbanus
Avatar 12:34pm
Mr Fab:

Ha ha, that was nuts. And this is GENIUS!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

He made a lot of parody songs like this. Usually of english songs. Ria Valk is the female André van Duijn. And Urbanus is the Flemish André van duijn.

Jan Turkenburg:

That's right Mr Fab. I can't think of any other Dutch act.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I have the suspicion that this sung about Peter actually is gay. "Peter vindt de meisjes stom". When I was 18, I certainly had a different opinion...

Hello Jan. I've not been a regular listener to this program but as you know I am generally interested in early appearances of major trends so the theme of this program caught my attention. It has not disappointed. Your superb taste made a program entertaining to listen to as well as an excellent survey of the music trend of the Teenager Muziek. Thank you!
