Doug, it is said that the method of recording the soundtrack of "Acenseur" was what changed Miles Davis's whole approach to recording. He gave up on rehearsals almost entirely, and the band often recorded songs immediately after hearing/seeing them for the first time. This led to greater spontaneity, he felt. Of course, that technique may only work when your band has Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, et al.

Hey, I have big plans to not go see the Aretha Franklin bio-pic. Anyone wanna join me?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am

Doug, I'll join you for every bio-pic you're not going to see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am

I`m not either Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am
Uncle Michael:

Bio-pics bat WELL below the Mendoza line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Doug Schulkind:

The last relatively decent biopic I remember seeing was Philip Seymour Hoffman's Truman Capote thing. I tend to avoid them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
Uncle Michael:

The thing about bio-pics: the less you know, the better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
Doug Schulkind:

Especially biopics about musicians. For instance I really ADORED not going to see Marc Anthony's film about Héctor Lavoe.

Speaking of accidentally murdering your mother with an ax, the closing track on today's show will be unnervingly related to that storyline. Wait for it.

And I with you, Mx. Baba Bee. I'll go not anywhere with you!

I'm also totally with you, Doug, but now I'm leaving you. I swore I would go out for my walk before the temps got to 90, so I have to go now and catch the rest on reruns. Thanks, for what is two-thirds of a great show!

i thought that James Brown biopic (Get on Up) was actually pretty good until the last forty or so minutes when the director lost his nerve in sticking with the nonlinear narrative
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am

Catching the reruns is way better than catching the runs.

I was (of course) curious about Dutch Harbor, (The Last Place to Go)... It is actually, in Alaska and the most westerly point of the United States. You probably can see Russia ;) A nice clip from the documentary: www.factorytwentyfive.com...

Aside from bio details being accurate (or not), who is going to sing Aretha?

I once played this on the air at WFMU and Ken Freedman called down to the studio thinking Fontella had just sung "Your voice is like a long fuck..." over the air.
