This is my favorite Bowie album from the Mick Ronson era as it were.

David (in London):

I remember once reading a review of one of Bowie's Glass Spider era shows (admittedly not his, ahem, finest period), and the reviewer called him 'the dirt underneath Prince's fingernails', and I thought 'You fucking traitor. That will come back to haunt you one day.'

Too right, David. What a crass thing to say.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Same thing ! Where most of us would cling for dear life to a Band like the Spiders (Mick Ronson ?! C'mon) - for Boowie the early 70s Hard Rawk Band was just another costume change.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
chris in the redwoods:

although Prince is probably another good example of superhuman. but well said, David, what nonsense.
Avatar 🦇 5:46pm
Julie:

now Prince, he had very serious pain issues. Sigh, that's what did him in.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Prince. Anyone into Music was obliged to be on tenterhooks wondering why he would do with probly the broadest *range* of Talents as both Musician & Performer
...I still don't feel he did anything my heart considers indispensable.
With Bowie - it's more of his stuff than not...
Big Pharma killed Prince & Petty with f*cking fentanyl - when all they wanted to do was keep working !
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

*what he would do...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
chris in the redwoods:

the war on drugs killed Prince, most likely. the lack of access to appropriate medication... needed to buy crap off the street that was not as advertised. at least that's my limited understanding...
Avatar 🦇 5:50pm
Julie:

Yes, Chris, that's right. My familiarity with Prince's massive catalog is small, but Purple Rain is very special to me. I think there is a "new" release coming or just came.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Prince as Producer interested me especially - he had that understanding & got an interesting sound.
Avatar 🦇 5:52pm
Julie:

it is very, very hard to get appropriate pain medication. This is why I mostly use (legal and illegal) weed and save what few pills I have for emergencies where I need to function mentally.
Avatar 🦇 5:52pm
Julie:

I think there is a whole Prince produced Sheena album in the vault and I really want to hear it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
chris in the redwoods:

nobody compares 2 u is a masterpiece of song writing, in my view, and Prince never released his own version. but i can't compare Prince and Bowie. such different artists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm

In spite of having some of his albums, I am not yet a huge fan of Prince's music. He was a genius alright, I jsut don't get it - yet. Will have to try The Originals. Thanks for the tip Julie.

Avatar 🦇 6:43pm
Julie:

What's your plan? My plan is pain...haha
Avatar 6:43pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:41 Julie: Solo Morrissey has his moments, actually many of them, at least late 80s/early 90s. Solo Sting then........
Avatar 🦇 6:44pm
Julie:

I believe it but I'm not about to pursue it
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:45pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

My most serious conflict with an Artist's different periods (leaving aside the things he says & does for one second) is Clapton. Cause I play Gittar & stuff.
But Morrissey is on the list...well - actually more for his attitudes than his Solo work, in fact...
Avatar 🦇 6:46pm
Julie:

I really only know the EC hits and I guess that's for the best. I would like to delve deeper into Cream though
Avatar 6:46pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@6:44 Julie: I respect your choice, but personally speaking I kinda regret I ignored his solo stuff for many years. His political stances are another matter.
Avatar 🦇 6:47pm
Julie:

yeah it's one thing to already be into it and THEN learn that stuff, but now that I know, yeah...no. same goes for EC post-Cream
Avatar 🦇 6:48pm
Julie:

people give EJ guff about his extravagant lifestyle but he seems a good guy, now anyway, even if a bit shortfused
Avatar 6:48pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Then again, I really disliked Cream for a long time. And now it's like a "where were you all my life"sort of thing.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:49pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think Cream get overshadowed being precisely between TheWho & Hendrix. Even on my shortlists. But their records meant as much to me as anybody's. & when I turn on my amp - it shows.
Yeah always felt Elton was for real. Maybe a bit of a Royalist in the ReagenThatcher era - I dunno... A lot of people sucked then...
Avatar 🦇 6:50pm
Julie:

I suppose I could do a set of cancelled/repugnant artists LOL
Avatar 6:50pm
