Haven't seen any of our Aussie friends listening to Under 64 that I recall.

Hi WR!

WR:

Very distinctive restrained wood block on that Victot Young recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07am
Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
  Swag For Life Member 8:08am
WR:

A single tap on some but not all the "zing"s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am
Jan Turkenburg:

that's the secret!
  Swag For Life Member 8:15am
WR:

On the Brookmeyer Discog says Arranged By, Tenor Saxophone – Al Cohn, nice late bop version.

WR:

Haven't seen recordings with Gigi Gryce listed as leader before, but I'm not fully awake yet. So may be forgetting.

WR:

Really like the LP cover:

Jan Turkenburg:

yes, nice!
  Swag For Life Member 8:36am
WR:

When hearing the Ruth Etting version earlier I thought it might be another Judy Garland recording. Since Etting was fully mature and Garland was just starting her career in the 30s it may be an example of Garland's roots.

No scheduled work today and chores and errands will be later so getting to sip my tea and focus on the program for the hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am
Jan Turkenburg:

I'm glad there's at least one interested listener, WR!
  Swag For Life Member 8:45am
WR:

For me it is so interesting to hear how different arrangers handle the intro of the song before the dominant melody comes in. Enoch Light version on the FDL show was the most subtle, deceptive that I recall. This Victor Sylvester that just started is just the opposite with the piano clearly cueing the main theme in the opening phrase.

Since you auditioned all these (at least partially) before programming the episodes, I can understand how you might be getting a little Zing fatigued.

There, The Dallas Boys starting with the zing zing zing chorus. another different approach
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am
Jan Turkenburg:

This week I had to play Supertramp a.o. to get Zing out of my head :=)
  Swag For Life Member 8:50am
WR:

And the Cliff Richards UK contemporaries, The Dallas Boys, first time to hear of them. Having graduated from high school in Dallas Texas, I'm wondering how a vocal group from Leicester England came to be called The Dallas Boys.

Now gotta look up who is on guitar with Jimmy Smith. They are burning up the Zing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am
Jan Turkenburg:

and yes, most of the recordings I have heard in its entirety before airing, because I recorded them from vinyl, spotify and youtube before mixing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am
Jan Turkenburg:

Perhaps I should see my doctor about this ...
  Swag For Life Member 8:54am
WR:

Didn't realize before how Zing is such a great standard for jazz versions, with the easily to remember theme, you can easily hear how the soloist plays with harmony and melody.
  Swag For Life Member 8:54am
WR:

What? Doctor?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am
Jan Turkenburg:

LOL
  Swag For Life Member 8:56am
WR:

A persistent Zinging in your ears?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56am
Jan Turkenburg:

no obsessive behaviour ;-)
  Swag For Life Member 8:58am
WR:

Wow, this hour went by so fast. Thank you Jan.

Enjoy your evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am
Jan Turkenburg:

:-) thanks WR, bye!
  Swag For Life Member 9:00am
WR:

You've got me obsessed on Zing now.
