"Fats Domino covered the song on his 1968 album Fats Is Back. McCartney says he may have told record producer Richard Perry that the song was "based on Fats", leading to Domino's version. Also released as a single, Domino's recording peaked at number 100 on the Billboard 100 in September 1968, giving the singer his 77th and final US chart hit."

Love Pleasures of the Harbor but remember at the time some Ochs fans not liking the production and that it wasn't just Phil and his guitar.
Avatar 1:07pm
Bob Brainen:

dan, I think Ochs had a melodic gift far far beyond Dylan, in fact I think that's one of Dylan's weaknesses.

Jo Stafford! She was one of Charles M. Schulz's favorites.
  1:11pm
(Mr) Bill:

Jo Stafford is very effective here. I find much of her singing to have an austere quality that keeps me at an emotional arm's length. Not this time.

doctorjazz:

I saw Ochs shortly before he died, at some Village folk club. It was packed; Ochs talked more than he played ,and sounded quite depressed. It was one of the sadder concerts I've ever gotten to.
  1:12pm
Docrock:

I agree with that, Jeff.
  1:12pm
dan:

@Bob
Dylan was focused on the words, Ochs was focused on the melody

Jeff, I think so too. Robbie, that is a lovely version from a fave album.
(Mr) Bill, diff. strokes, she draws me right in. No right or wrong in this stuff!

Art Garfunkel and Robin Gibb should’ve done a collaboration together.

Stafford and her husband Paul Weston were hilarious as Jonathan and Darlene Edwards.

Right on on no right-wrong, Bob. And the more I hear her, the more I appreciate her.

Tim Moore (who wrote and recorded 2nd Ave) shoulda coulda been a star. I think he was semi-big in Brazil for a while. I understand he’s back in the Woodstock area now.

@doctorjazz I studied at SUNY Oswego. Graduated 2015. That is where I encountered Phil for the first time. Phil cares deeply about people & so do I.

WR, Franco, and anyone else misled by my mistake... that NRBQ track did in fact quote the I Love Lucy theme song (as WR initially guessed, and as the track is listed in the WFMU advanced playlist search (in the past)). my apologies. carry on :-B

In my opinion a tour de force, and kind of convergence of pasts meeting near and far futures. Thanks for airing it.

...Listening - as I said - each Saturday A.M. to the *previous* week's episode before I switch to the main stream @ 11...
Flawless playlist !
I read somewhere that Maria Booker breaks down & cries in Dindi because she was self-conscious about measuring up around these Jazz Giants.
Of course it makes the track immortal.
That was late in August, 1969 - Woodstock wrapped up on the 18th, & Bitches Brew started the 19th - just for some temporal energetic context...
