Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
TDK60, Woo, ultradamno, chresti, P-90, Marco Esquandolas, Bruce S., Doug in JC, DjLorraine, Ken From Hyde Park, and Rich in Washington, to be specific.
@Wendy del Formaggio: Always and ever. <3 (Fun Fact: It was written by Stephin Merritt's father as a teenager, whom Stephin met for the first time only a few years ago.)
This Tom Verlaine song always reminds me of that movie Big Bad Love. I saw it in college and it made me fall in love with the visual dreaminess of the south. I had never been outside of NJ and NYC at the time.
Hi Gaylord. I stopped working when I heard Tom Verlaine. This is scared music for earthbound heathens. Chresti and I have seen seen Television/Tom solo in beautiful crumbling theaters in San Francisco. I walk away transformed....for a minute before I resume my position in the gutter.
@coelacanth∅: As with Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, you bring one in only if you have one. I don't have either, but if I had one, I'd probably have the other.
