Headclear, I'm the last person you should be asking. I lose my horse every week. Can't imagine where yours is off to!

Hahaha, I feel you, NGH. I've shifted to an every other day showering schedule during the pandemic. Anticipating that may change soon.
Avatar 10:56pm
northguineahills:

Everytime I look at that pic, It reminds me of looking B Blk Lot designs (w/ more recent photos). They eventually used Google Streetview. Thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
Sam Segal:

I think I'll be using these tax photos for awhile. They're such a treasure trove of subtle old NYC charm.
  11:01pm
headcleaner:

Oh let's hope they're still taking their own photos now and then (of all these buildings) - with $29B in annual property revenue at stake, relying (entirely) on any commercial 3rd party for such a crucial data stream is sheer folly
  11:07pm
headcleaner:

NGH - that's short for Control Machete, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Sam Segal:

Good point, Headcleaner. I'd be really curious to know if the City is still taking its own photos. The 1980s is the latest decade currently available online, but you'd think the archive goes further than that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Little Danny:

Hi Sam, hi friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
Sam Segal:

Nice to see you, LD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
chresti:

Hi Sam and slippery horses!
  11:15pm
headcleaner:

Oh there are archives going back to the turn of the century (for some parts of the city). I don't have the websites handy because every time I start poking around, I quickly lose myself and forget to bathe / eat ...
  11:17pm
rw:

I want someone to develop an app that works like Street View, only you can go backward in time as well.
  11:18pm
rw:

Hey chresti, Little Danny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm
Sam Segal:

@Headcleaner, sorry I meant I wonder whether they will eventually make photos taken in the 90s and 00s available.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Sam Segal:

Greetings, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
chresti:

Maybe they're still digitizing the archives?
Hi rw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Little Danny:

rw hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Sam Segal:

@rw, there is something kind of like that for NYC: www.oldnyc.org
  11:21pm
rw:

Wow. Nice. Thx SS.
  11:21pm
headcleaner:

Ah this century you mean :) I'm sure everything's digitized, but websites to display this kind of stuff (conveniently, tagged precisely to address/BBL) are expensive to build and maintain. So that's probably the bottleneck.
Avatar 11:21pm
Constantly Choking:

The Salute the Parrot song It Will Set is so good...so was Salt Pans....I guess I'll have to get the record
  11:21pm
headcleaner:

(That is to say: obviously simple in concept, such a website - but still, a ball-and-chain to maintain over time)
  11:22pm
headcleaner:

I better not click on that oldnyc.org link, otherwise I won't be getting any sleep tonite ...
  11:23pm
rw:

Sam, have you checked out your new house on that map?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Little Danny:

Wow, thanks Sam, that page is fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
Sam Segal:

@RW, I did. They didn't have my exact address, but I was able to find some cool photos of the neighborhood (Clinton Hill). I was able to find my address through the NYC tax photo archive, but it wasn't that exciting because my building looked about the same as it does now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Sam Segal:

@CC, I love that album as well as Maurice Louca's more recent release "Elephantine."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Little Danny:

This is gorgeous.
Avatar 11:29pm
Constantly Choking:

@Sam I'll have to listen to them both. My list of records to check out is so long right now...not that that's a bad thing...the TMT top 100 of the decade is the bulk of that list
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Sam Segal:

@LD, imagine listening to that Eblen Macari during a visit to the Luis Enrique Erro Planetarium in Mexico City. The album was originally recorded to accompany that experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Sam Segal:

Lotta great albums on that list, CC. I remember discovering a ton of things I'd missed when reading through it. I miss TMT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Little Danny:

Wow, incredible. Are the rest of the tracks on that album so peaceful?
  11:33pm
headcleaner:

@Sam - never been to the CDMX but am strongly tempted to make a jaunt down there once the current situation clears. So you're nudging me further in that direction
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
Sam Segal:

Yes they are. Other tracks feature some additional instrumentation as well, so its not all quite as spare.
Avatar 11:36pm
Constantly Choking:

@Sam oh man so much stuff I'd never known about when they came out....Aaron Dilloway, Zs, BabyFather, that Farrah Abraham record! and I'm still working through it, totally wild
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
Sam Segal:

@Headcleaner, I've never been there either, but have known people who have gone and loved it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Little Danny:

This too is fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
Little Danny:

Makes me flash on some of Julia Holter's early albums for some reason.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Sam Segal:

Oh I could definitely hear the resonance with Julia Holter. Man, I need to revisit her work. I loved "Loud City Song" so much when it came out.

John Dennis was way under-recorded. This album also features some trio pieces with Max Roach and Charles Mingus.
