This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

tho in truth like many Bosch engravings, it has no actual connection to Bosch, it's actually a Hameel composition engraved by major "after Bosch" practitioner Hieronymous Cock, which sounds like a Pynchon factoid
Avatar 7:11pm

there's probably a case to be made that Canterbury experimentalism and ESP-disk artists have a lot in common, they'd definitely make a good dialogue

I'm trying to think of American rock musicians who crossed over seriously into jazz in the heady '70s. There must be others, but all I can think of is Carlos Santana.

Do you feel like your shows have changed (any definition of "changed") since 2015, Flash?
Avatar 7:22pm
Flash Strap:

@LD: one of Donovan's more unique qualities is the way he incorporated jazz into some of his stuff, with McNair's horns often appearing, but it's hard to call it too serious in terms of "being" jazz. Astral Weeks, which I can never get into personally, makes a strong case

JeffBeck I think successfully had his own corner.
Donovan was just a Boho on a CounterCultural mission & didn't care about Genre @ all ! Should be said @ least as often as 'WannabeDylan'...

Yeah Revrab, Bolan and Barrett might have got a few inklings from Leitch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm

I'd put Soft Machine on the continuum of UK fusion certainly, but I'd also consider UK fusion to be more rock-oriented. Or rock-friendly.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm

Mr. James Marshall Hendrix with Mitch Mitchell - don't think he cared overmuch about Genre - other than never letting go of Blooz. Well & Psych - & Rawk ...& Soul.. yeah just Musics.

early Tyrannosaurus Rex is so Donovanesque it's undeniable. Like Donovan with more & weirder doubletracking and less varied instrumentation

It was Gil Evans who wanted to work with Hendrix. He had arrangements but Hendrix died before the recordings could be done. Evans still recorded the work but to me wasn't as strong as Evans other work.

Little Danny:

Thanks WR, that rings a distant bell for me.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:35pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

All of Psych owes Jazz in stretching out & improvising. The BYrdS were tripping on Coltrane @ the very start of it. I like to goof & say Jazz is just Blues for people who play too well - but it's kinda sorta true. In England - TradJaz was a trend before Rawk took over - & people like Bruce & Baker came outta that. Of course R&B was slotted inbetween...
