Keef would be cool but would claim the Stones did that sound in outtakes of Satanic Majesties or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
tim from champaign (now washington):

@Marie - There was an Arby's know as Rock'n'Roll Arby's in Springfield Illinopis that had shows. I never went. It was more of a scene for "the kids" which is cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
paddy in matawan:

what a sound
  3:19pm
Marie:

Hey Tim, that sounds like fun. I bet LA has a lot of stuff like that. Those spaces could be really cool and they have a lot of parking, especially like abandoned, defunct ones
Avatar 3:20pm

Another failed opportunity for the Arby's corporation was not including space for DIY shows in their franchises. What a bunch of meat heads.

I don't think I've seen anything at a big chain, but I've seen Scratch Acid at a BBQ place, a bunch of bands including Zero Boys at a pizza place, and then there's Sudsy Malones, the rnr laundromat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
tim from champaign (now washington):

There's an abandoned Sizzler around the corner from my work. That would be a cool DIY show space.

Avatar 3:26pm
TDK60:

Once went to a h/c show in Dayton. A black bar with a banquet room in the back. They had shows.
  3:26pm
Marie:

One of the coolest spaces I've seen a show in was a basement of an art gallery in Chicago and the floor was unfinished and they had a stage that was basically cement and the stage/band and audience were separated by a chain link fence--and there was this blistering punk rock band performing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
paddy in matawan:

@marie, like a dirt floor?!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm

Shows in non-traditional settings usually make for the best shows.

@ChukAmok - I would have gladly been paid in Ethiopian food instead of cash.

Once played a gig in a chemical factory yard, on a loading dock. Weird. Pipes and vents going every which way. A kid had a dad who gave him the key. Why I know not.
Avatar 3:30pm
ChukAmok:

Oh, and they used to have regular shows at Dahlak in Philly...I wonder why the only restaurants I have played in were Ethiopian? Not complaining. Love that cuisine.

Then there's clothing stores and church basements, I've seen bands in a few of those.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Rob (Jerzcity):

And based on Marie's comment about the unfinished basement, I went down a rabbit hole of trying to find the venue in brooklyn where lightning bolt just set up in the very middle of the place - I thought it was called black cat? around the corner from a taco loco (or burrito loco)? Another show lost in the fog. Sound familiar to anyone? this was early 2000's i guess
  3:46pm
Marie:

"emergency peanut"--I love it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm

Rob, the Monkey Bar place?

There was also for a while a glassblowing studio in BK that had shows.

We played a warehouse in Philly maybe? Half the room was pallets of Jehri Curl. People climbing all over them
Avatar 3:49pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm

I played at the Asbury Park Howard Johnson's once. That was really fun
  3:52pm
Marie:

I've gotta comment on the dog sound--how come there isn't more of that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm
Rob (Jerzcity):

@Handy - all I can say is maybe?

@ChukAmok - seriously (re: hazy). I have snapshots of memories from inside the venue: long, narrow, lightning bolt set up in the middle of the floor, yellowish/orangish lighting....then a burrito from somewhere around the corner (or two). Oof.

Pretty much every show I saw at North Six is all jumbled together into one at this point.
