Perhaps the DJ types in the audience could help me with something. spodiodi:

aloha, Andres! they actually have rooms for rent above the bar, but living in the bar itself is "free" :) (no idea if they still have/rent those SROs)

@Jeff -- yup! early 80s (the ex and i had moved to Hoboken in August '81 -- when Hoboken was the cheapest place to live!!!) -- i was coming out of the PATH station, and there was Tommy Stinson in front of me, chatting with some older relatives, guess he was showing them around town before the show? (and he may have still been "underage" too, hah!)

so - the barkeeps were dead playboy bunnies? ...or just really skinny ones

Very belated greets to @Aitch, who I might've missed on entry.

I see we've righted the navigation from Destination: Back to Destination: Out.
Also, I had a friend who played bass clarinet in high school, and he would not believe me when I told him it was a fairly common jazz instrument.

spodiodi: Great logo! All the residential bar/hotels around here have gone upscale so no more tenants, except for a strip club in town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm

heck yes. once they finally opened that up, it was pretty choice... what was the chef/cook's name who made their menu and put their food on the map? (before him it was pretty ghastly bar ood) i think it was Andre? idk. i can't rememeber anything these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm

My friend worked there named Churchill. He was the manager? Andre sounds right? My memory is shot as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
spodiodi:

thanks, Andres. i always liked it too (not sure where it came from or who did it. geometry is a little off in that pic because of the angle, and it's a cleaned-up stenciled version of the original that was there first)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
spodiodi:

hahahaa ok we def know some mutual peeps, solo. no surprise
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm

solo, Churchill was friends with at least one of my roommates, and friendly with them all (we had no problems, just was never really tight with him.... i think i've been in his place a couple of times, at least -- he lived pretty much catty-corner to ZG at one point (i think; at least that's where my (unreliable, blurry memory is trying to tell me))

weird i think i never entered a bar in san francisco. spent some time in bars in santa cruz and in arcata
... i think i just didn't like the vibe in general in sf, so didn't hang out at night, just went to campsites at night
