[swoops in from top of frame slowly, revealing full extent of galactic funkiness as title crawl ends] The Fourth Day of May It Is Today! Wait....

may the fourth be with twenty ... or something like that

Amazing!

Gads, this "holiday" gets so overkill! Wonder how Disney is indulging it's fans today.

But more importantly, I wonder if were going to hear any MECO in all this monotonous hubbub.

yippie:

please please life day song

station in buffalo called rock 102 was a taped thing and it always followed the meco star wars theme with jet airliner by steve miller. had the same pew pew pew laser effects in it.

I never knew that Don Ellis record existed until, this past weekend, when I saw it in a record store in Utica! Funny to suddenly hear it!

I'm also expecting at least one play of Richard Cheese's "Star Wars Cantina" today.

this is a may 4th thing i can get behind -- and julieb's bonus hour was good too

And now that I think about it, this gives me a good excuse to view the "Hardware Wars" parody trailer. I first saw it in high school when Steven Spielberg came to our school during his tour back in 1981.

Fox:

This is excellent.

So OK - here's a blunt not to say willfully obtuse question :
How do you rate John Williams? Is he just repurposing Classical Musics for a phat profit - or does he have the real skills ? I mean obviously he knows the Art of providing what works - & it's being provocative - but possibly towards some end...
Avatar 7:19pm
Fox:

I've come to terms with the strange fact that as a lifelong Star Wars fanatic, I think the franchise is shit. George Lucas is just lucky he stumbled into John Williams and the Henson crew.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Folsom:

Are there any Star Wars Holiday Special songs?
  7:22pm
Eric Kilkenny:

Hola Devon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
Folsom:

I saw on Regal Robot, they sold out of their Holochess figurine set, $4800, that's a lot

Howard Stern once said of George Lucas:
"You know, I'll bet every night, he sits alone in a dark corner of his house saying to himself, "What have I done?"
Avatar 7:24pm
Fox:

Folsom: The Life Day song. Carrie Fisher was quite embarrassed by her performance.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...as for StarWars itself - before it came out I was enuff of a SciFi geek - a different cultural proposition in 1977 & before - that I read Starlog & all this - & I was hyped ! It was gonna be 2001 crossed with Tolkien - & a new era of effects ! Well - the first one delivered on some of that - I'd have to conceded that's a pretty great film... & Lo ! the lines were around th block & it was a megatrend. They completely lost me really. If it's on for free I'll watch them - yerknow that kinda thing...
& more than any other film - it started the Blockbuster Era - which I mostly regret...
Avatar 7:26pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

AndrouB - that's pretty good...
Avatar 7:27pm
Fox:

I only got up to the third Dune book when I was 13 and my brain exploded so I stopped. Reading it now, and knowing what Lucas' original plans were for Star Wars, and his insistence in keeping with some of those themes even though it made no sense (Luke and Leia being twins), it's so clear that Star Wars is a huge Dune ripoff.... as much as THX1138 is a ripoff of 1984, specifically the version with Peter Cushing and Donald Pleasance.
Avatar 7:28pm
Fox:

And man... Lucas just let the whole Joseph Campbell shit go to his head and made the prequels filled with all sorts of religious bullshit that didn't fit whatsoever.
  7:29pm
Androu B.:

So now's a good time to ask...
Which was the most annoying character(s) in the SW franchise: Salacius Crumb, the Ewoks or Jar Jar Binks?
Avatar 7:29pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

& many cite classic Westerns & Akira Kurosawa - quite a lot of things !... Jack Kirby & Marvel Comics characters...
Avatar 7:30pm
Fox:

JarJar. No competition.

Salacious Crumb was a hoot!
Avatar 7:31pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...anyhow - Disney owns every last one of these things anymore...
Avatar 7:33pm
Devon E. Levins:

Hey Eric K, Nice to hear you back on the airwaves!

Androu B.:

For anyone in the know:
Is Disney+ running the Nelvana-produced "The Ewoks" and "Droids" animated series?
Avatar 7:35pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...it has its Themes - but as Space Opera - it catered to Adventure too much - & dealt SciFi based on Ideas in Cinema a pretty devastating lightsabre injury...
Sorry - I said I'd just try & get thru the day without being bitchy about it...
Avatar 7:35pm
