	7:19pm northguineahills: fun fact: Melanesians sailed from what is now Papua New Guinea/Soloman Islands, to Madagascar, and interbred w/ the origianal peoples ( Bantu) there, around the 3rd c BCE (ish). It's the only language that's outside of the SE Asia/Pacific that falls in the Malaya/Polynesian language family.

	7:34pm northguineahills: @TDK: It still blows my mind how the bloody fuck they got 10K km/6200 miles across the Indian Ocean. I bet they hugged the coasts, as there is very few islands in btn. Then again, Melaesian/Micronesian/Polynesian culture got to Rapa Nui (Easter Island), and maybe the Chile coast......
	7:34pm StringOFperils: I saw D'Gary at an outdoor thing, small crowd, in the early '90s. It was lovely. One of those things where you wonder why there aren't a lot more people there.

	7:40pm coelacanth∅: D'Gary was one of my scores when i was reviewing the entire shanachie distributor catalogue and buying everything that intrigued me...when i had more money, in the 1980s-90s

	7:43pm coelacanth∅: i listened to that Henry Kaiser album a lot back then, but i listen to D'Gary's solo stuff more now
	7:43pm northguineahills: I only found the Shanachie record label and found a John Fahey record on it. I ripped through everything I found in the record stores, (I haven't bought anything online, unless, it's WFMU marathon or my friends' records.)

	7:50pm coelacanth∅: after getting killed on shipping the first time, i went directly to the warehouse from thereafter. got friendly with the woman in charge of mailorder and she hooked me up in a huge way. they distributed some excellent early blues comp labels, like matchbox and yazoo. those labels worked together so the completist buyers didn't have to buy tons of duplicate tracks. very good of them!

	7:56pm LambdaCalculus: I finished "Remain In Love" by Chris Frantz. He talks very in-depth not only about his life but also life in Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club. It's a really good read.
	7:59pm StringOFperils: That should show up in my mailbox any day now. Should be an interesting story about artistic ego and ambition, and navigating all that.

	8:17pm melinda: On my first trip to the neighborhood Asian market in ages (trying a new recipe after a long food rut) I thought I'd try some new things: Nigori (cloudy sake) and Vietnamese fish mint. The sake is delicious but the fish mint is weird...anyone ever try it? I'll be looking online for culinary uses.

	🇰🇷 8:37pm WR: The maro tady does not appear to be easy to play, but the blistxering speed at which the players here manage to move their fingers across industrial cable repurposed as strings is impressive in and of itself. -from Smithsonian Folkways notes... TDK60 you are likely correct.
	8:38pm northguineahills: i put cumin in anything Mexican, Chinese, or Indian. (Worcester sauce in a michelada, is amazing, as is crushed dried shrimp)>
	8:39pm melinda: @ngh I'd try it in a recipe @coel cumin totally smells like b.o. but I like it anyway. This fish mint is like fresh sweat, not armpit. still gross. But tangy too.
	8:41pm northguineahills: (lost the internet for almost 10 mins). Cumin is also good for you. My parents take cumin gel caps. I offered to cook meals w/ cumin, but they get all their food at Wal-Mart. (a bottle of cumin is way cheaper then what they pay for their capsules).
	8:44pm Iºkºe: My parents shop at Wal-Mart too but surprisingly they've occasionally found weird or really spicy things there. My mom says she found something with ghost pepper flavor that was too hot for her to eat and she can eat REALLY hot stuff, way hotter than me.
	8:46pm northguineahills: @Ike: My mother thinks black pepper is too hot. My father can go slightly spicier then tabasco. They only go exotic when they eas Japanese, as we lived there for years (and even make japanese curry, a british/indian import in the late 19th c.
	8:49pm northguineahills: of courrse, I'm the guy that would drink hot sauce at boring meetings, and would eat 1/3 of a ghost pepper before work (from my old garden), to wake up, better then coffee).

	9:07pm northguineahills: The most I paid for a rekkid, was philip glass's "Music w/ Changing Parts" (oroginal release). I paid it for $50 (got an employee discount as my friend worked there). It's now worth more then twice that. I don't think I've paid more then $20 for a cd.....

	9:35pm melinda: @coel the site I was at did say it has antiviral properties and mentioned some other viruses. It was one of those general sites with no references though.

	🇰🇷 9:45pm WR: In most of the traditional pieces the musician plays really fast. Don't know if that is wide spread or due to the selections you're making Gary.
	9:46pm coelacanth∅: thanks melinda. i guess it's probably like a lot of things that have extremely slight antiviral activity or that it seems to but we're not sure yet. sars is heavy duty though! much more potentially deadly than the "covid19" virus - and closely related; so it's worth considering

	8:41pm northguineahills: (lost the internet for almost 10 mins). Cumin is also good for you. My parents take cumin gel caps. I offered to cook meals w/ cumin, but they get all their food at Wal-Mart. (a bottle of cumin is way cheaper then what they pay for their capsules).
