"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

The mind does not discern what is real or what is not; it is both.

Thus, in the blind imagination, thought, speech, action, and world become one. Things do not take on reality until we realize they do. Each little fragment of consciousness is a gnosis of something else. And all is real, because each is an insight. And all are visible, because each reveals another.

@Heidee: I would be wary of commercial DNA testing. I did it on a lark several years ago and only learned after the fact (I stupidly did not read the terms) that I had assigned the intellectual property rights to my own goddamned DNA to the testing company. I don't know how enforceable that provision is, but it certainly gave me pause. You should investigate before you decide. Privacy rights are much better regulated in Europe, so maybe it's a different story than here in the land of untrammeled late capitalism.

I joked with my partner when we were getting an ultrasound for our first child that we'd know if the kid had more of my DNA if crushed beer cans, punk rock 45s and wrestling magazines showed up in the ultrasound. Fortunately, none of those items showed up and my daughter resembles her mother in the smarts department.

David - Indeed, I've been burning my share of petrol. I didn't have a car for 12 years so on average maybe it's OK? I've been looking at maps trying to pick my next move - I was going to drive up the Pacific Coast Highway but a big section of it (through Big Sur) has been closed since Jan. Just found out that it reopens at noon TODAY. How's that for serendipity?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am
Passaic River Blues:

@Marco: Kim Sorise's very good "Global Grease," Mondays nights on the Drummer stream, is not exclusively a jazz program but more or often than not is almost entirely jazz-focused. Little Danny's excellent "The Cool Blue Flame" on Thursday nights on the Drummer stream is by no means a jazz show, but he very often mines mid-century West Coast bop and Latin jazz records. Most shows feature at least some of that.
